Not a very lucky ground for the Darts I seem to remember?

Pretty certain I went there for a 4th qualifying round FA Cup tie back in the eighties. A few wannabee hard boys and an extremely painful 2-1 defeat when we were favourites to go through as I recall.
So a chance to extract a dort of delayed reaction revenge, but also a tough ground to visit. Not the draw I was hoping for, but probably better than Maidstone away.

I think Paul Lazarus scored our goal but, as you say, it wasn’t enough to save us from a shock exit.

1st Round Propper 20-Nov-82. Lazarus indeed. Crowd 2,042 - we could do with that again. En route, we beat Whitehawk, Haywards Heath, Tonbridge Angels, Corinthian Casuals, Boreham Wood (replay). Strangely, we had been relegated the season previous.

If we want a decent cup run, we will need to beat teams better than Worthing. Bring it on.

This is the fifth time we’ve drawn Worthing in the F.A Cup. The most common tie in this season’s 3rd qualifying round

Taken from Princes Among Men it looks like we’ve already avenged the 1982 defeat!

08/10/1921 Away drew 0-0 (1Q)
12/10/1921 Home won 1-0 (1Q Replay)
12/11/1927 Home won 3-0 (4Q)
20/11/1982 Away lost 1-2 (1)
26/09/2009 Away won 2-1 (2Q)

We did manage a 4-3 win in our last visit to Worthing in November last year as well.

Christ on a bike. Paul Lazarus! There's a blast from the past. Never seemed to get out of second gear for us (I remember fans who called him Lazy-ass - can't think why!).
Anyway, here's hoping we can progress this time. We owe ourselves a win.

I suppose our luck in the draw had to run out, Worthing is a tough one away. Let's hope for a Cray Valley performance and not a Dover one.

It was 2009 when Minty picked me up in the car and put the sat nav on because the M25 was f*cked.
Shame the King's Ferry coach driver didn't do his homework before departure.
The team arrived late and hardly had time to warm up.
The referee refused to delay the kick off time too.
The 2-1 victory was hard fought as we huffed and puffed our way to the next round.

This match will have a reduced capacity which is evidently down to a new stand being built.

Okay, maybe we're not quite dead yet, but after last weekend's performance we could do with a Lazarus type reanimation.

Worthing are frequently caught out in cup competitions so expect a closer match than everyone is thinking.
And I haven't had my pills yet this morning.
Bigger clubs in a lot of cases often put out a weakened team.

Last week was truly shocking ….im praying for a huge improvement…..I’m at Derby Norwich today….. last week completely wiped out any chance of me going (from Matlock) to Worthing . COYD

Can't make it today. Good luck to those who do and hope no one was unable to get a ticket due to the reduced capacity, which is what we don't want in an FA Cup tie. The draw I wanted to avoid was Maidstone away but I'm having second thoughts now as atleast the club would have been financially better off playing down at the Gallagher. Not only from ticket sales but from the generous donations usually lobbed our way by the welcoming hosts in the main stand.
Atleast there is still an important game to see on the main pitch tomorrow as our women's team take on Ashford United in their pursuit of national league promotion, which so narrowly eluded them last season.
Our girls have been flying the flag for us in the FA Cup recently too. Over the last two seasons they have earned Dartford Football Club £27,000 in FA Cup prize money alone.
Bearing in mind the debacle under Dowson last season the ladies don't even get paid and play for the shirt. They deserve far more recognition and support than they are currently getting.
Anyway, I'll be tuning in this afternoon as I'm sure a club of Worthing's stature will have live commentary on the game today.
Let's hope they have an off day!
