Brilliant result, possibly the best result under Dowse so far.

Thought we had lost our way a little after a couple of patchy matches, but this result puts us back in contact.

Two big games coming up, we will be confident after this result.

Looks like plenty of action to keep Park Life's fingers warm for typing. Thanks Steve for all those updates and also to our commentator braving the cold elements too. At one stage 74 listeners were tuned in. Might have been even higher at times during the game.

This week has been full of surprises in our division, and our own result tonight is probably one of those as we achieve our best away result of the season. About time we turned the corner when playing against Jason Prior!

Well played Darts. Will make for a couple of very interesting games coming up over the Christmas period.

A very unexpected result for me.
Especially after Saturdays non event.

We can beat anyone in this league on our day .
It certainly makes up for Saturdays non event.
Well Done Wally and Luke.

Dowse must be pulling whats left of his hair out after tonights great win over H & W after the debacle on saturday but the 3 changes worked and full credit to all concerned , Alex Wall just maybe had a point to make to Doswell after releasing him and his 2 goals will be a big boost to his confidence and our fortunes !!!
Full credit to the lads who went and were rewarded with this performance

Looking forward to seeing the match highlights

Havant Match Report

ABOUT MATCH
Dos faces Dows as the Hawks take on third place Dartford in a midweek thriller.

It was a happy return for Alex Wall as he made the difference in the first half, he slotted the Darts into the lead.

Allen poked one home to double the visitors’ lead, and just as McCarthy got the Hawks back into it, Wall was on the scoresheet once again to secure the Darts’ three points.

MATCH ACTION

It was a shaky start for the Hawks with Dartford really taking the game to the hosts, Allen saw a ranged strike fly over the bar, and House was almost caught out coming off his line by a pressing Alex Wall.

Allen had the first strike on target, House dealt with it well. The Hawks slowly got into the match, a counter-attacking move with Roberts and Faal ended swiftly with a clearance by Bonner.

The Hawks were playing a style of football we are not used to seeing, they held onto the ball for the best part of 10 minutes which culminated in Prior from being denied an opener by Essam.

It was Dartford to break against the run of play when former Hawk Alex Wall was played in by Carruthers on the right-hand side, checked past Newton, and slotted it past House.

Faal gradually grew into the game and saw a strike get swatted away by Mair at the near post as the Hawks looked to get back in it.

A late free-kick fell to McCarthy but it was blasted at the wall and the Hawks went into the break 1-0 down.

HT – Hawks 0, Darts 1

Ten minutes passed in the first half but no real chances for either side as they looked to try and threaten the goalkeepers.

Oduadu found space on the left hand side for the first time in the second half, he put a dangerous ball into the box and it trickled into the net after a final touch by Allen.

After the second from the Darts, it was the Hawks trying to pile on the pressure – a flurry of chances from corners called Mair into action but nothing would break.

Josh Passley tried to grow into the match and he smashed a strike past the post, and another into the side netting.

The pressure repaid the Hawks and a Clifford whipped free-kick was met by McCarthy who poked it past Mair. The one thing Paul Doswell wouldn’t have wanted to happen though is a goal up the other end a minute later. Alex Wall doubled his tally a minute or two later with a driven strike.

The Hawks had to make their own momentum after the third went in, Passley sent a good ball into Charlie Ruff who steered a header inches past the post.

It was too little too late for the Hawks as they couldn’t recover from the third Darts goal. A tough home defeat.

FT – Hawks 1, Darts 3

Hawks XI: House, Passley, Newton, McCarthy, Rooney, Clifford, Collins, Gobern (55’), Wright (16’), Roberts, Faal

Hawks Subs: Magri, Prior (16’), Searle, Burnett, Ruff (55’)

Darts XI: Mair, Wynter, Carruthers, Essam, Bonner, Coulson, Allen, Wall, Statham, Oduadu, Napa

Darts Subs: Campbell, Murtagh, Rodari, Fonkeu, Sheringham

Match Report by Chris Palmer

Former Hawk Alex Wall returned to haunt his old club by netting an excellent brace, as a spirited Dartford side inflicted a punishing defeat on Havant & Waterlooville at the Draper Tools Community Stadium.

With temperatures dropping below freezing point across the country, many were wondering if tonight’s fixture in Hampshire would go ahead. Yet it most certainly did and it was the visitors who took advantage of the icy conditions by beginning the game in a positive manner.

As manager, Alan Dowson, shuffled his side a little following the weekend’s stalemate against Bath City, the likes of Alex Wall and Luke Coulson came into the starting eleven alongside midfielder Luke Allen, who was making his first starting appearance since returning from injury.

And, it was Allen who created the first meaningful opportunity of the night when his second-minute strike was deflected behind for the first corner of the game. He’d go on to force another corner four minutes later after getting on the end of a Samir Carruthers pass. Unfortunately, goalkeeper Brad House was alert to tip Allen’s effort behind, as the Darts threatened to gain a firm grip on proceedings.

However, Paul Doswell’s side soon grew into the game but their tactics took a hit when Danny Wright picked up an injury and was unable to continue. Subsequently, he was swapped for Jason Prior after just 15 minutes, just as the hosts began to venture forward with more intent.

Josh Passley was starting to do battle with Sam Odaudu, and the tussle would be joined by James Roberts later in the game, as the Hawk duo seemed to gang up on the Dartford left-back. And, Passley’s efforts almost lead to the first goal of the night when his threatening cross towards Prior was intercepted by the superb block of Connor Essam (21).

However, seven minutes later saw the Darts take a deserved lead. And it was Luke Allen who started the move. His excellent pass found Samir Carruthers who, in turn found Alex Wall, who found the bottom corner with a delightful effort.

Havant responded immediately with two chances of their own within sixty seconds of each other. The first came in the 31st minute, when Prior managed to get on the end of Billy Clifford’s cross, only to head the ball straight at Archie Mair. The young goalkeeper was then called into action to save a low strike from the lively Muhammadu Faal (32).

Faal then saw another effort of his blocked well by Connor Essam (37), before Roberts failed to test Mair with a long-range effort (40).

As we reached the 45th minute, Paul Rooney was fouled by Connor Essam on the edge of the Dartford box, which earned the Dart a yellow card from referee Mr Callum Walchester. Thankfully, the free-kick was dealt with by the defensive wall.

It was as you were at the start of the second forty-five, as the hosts began on the front-foot from the start. Roberts managed to find an opening within seconds, but his curling drive flew straight into the safe arms of Archie Mair (46).

They then replaced Oscar Gobern with Charlie Ruff (55), who’s first piece of the action was to foul the excellent Jordan Wynter in the middle of the pitch!

However, with the Hawks pressing forward more often, the visitors launched an excellent attacking move which resulted in Sam Odaudu smashing the ball across the face of goal, where Luke Allen was on hand to roll it over the line to double his side’s lead and score his second goal of the season (59).

Alan Dowson responded soon after by introducing Keiran Murtagh for Samir Carruthers (61), before bringing on Pierre Fonkeu for Malachi Napa six minutes later. His final change in personnel would take place five minutes from the ninety, as Davide Rodari replaced Alex Wall.

Meanwhile, as we return to the action in the 63rd minute, we find Archie Mair at it again as he made a great save to keep the ball out following a Hawk corner (63), before Tom Bonner stepped in with a superb challenge to block another shot two minutes later.

Josh Passley then found the side-netting as the hosts continued to look dangerous (69), before they were eventually rewarded for their efforts. That aforementioned combination of Passley and Roberts did battle with Sam Odaudu once again and Mr Walchester unfairly judged that the Dartford youngster had fouled his man! Billy Clifford took the free-kick and Jake McCarthy managed to get on the end of it to poke the ball home (73).

Yet, just as the hosts thought they were back in the game, Alex Wall had other ideas. Dartford replied almost immediately via brilliant combination play between Keiran Murtagh and Luke Coulson. The latter then found Wall who did the rest to cap off a superb night for himself and his teammates (75).

The Hawks did try to cut the deficit once again but the Dartford defence remained virtually resolute, as everyone got behind the ball to defend the lead. The closest the hosts came was in the 88th minute when a corner forced a scramble in the six-yard box and Archie Mair remained alert to thwart Jake McCarthy’s late strike.

The result sees Dartford leapfrog their opponents into second place in the National League South table, equal on points with first-placed Ebbsfleet United, who they travel to on Boxing Day in what has the potential to be a bumper clash.

Wasn't sure how we would perform tonight after Saturday but it was like chalk & cheese.
We started with a much better tempo to our play, pressed higher up the pitch when required and had the desire and determination which seemed to be missing against Bath. A good all round performance and imo very worthy winners.

So looking back on the last two games (albeit two contrasting performances), four points is a good return in these fixtures and i think most of us would have been very happy with that.

Luke Allen was great all evening but in the end just gave MOTM to Alex for his two good finishes.

Credit to Dowse tonight as he made some changes to the team which probably gave us our best result of the season.

Outstanding performance from our lads tonight. Full of energy, Darts took charge early and bossed it throughout. Luke Alllen was majestic in midfield and Alex Wall devestating up front. Tough call between these two for MOTM but I gave it to Luke by a whisker. Great match enjoyed by the small band of hardy Darts' fans who braved the weather on a night when even Captain Oates might have given it a miss.

As an aside Doswell’s post match is an interesting listen!
(If someone could post it?)
Why doesn’t he just say we were beaten by the better team?? (8 x goals conceded in their last two home games!)
