The opening five minutes saw both teams have half-chances but none were capitalised upon.

Then in the sixth minute a long clearance from Emily Woodhouse found Tilly Rowsell, where a rebound off the defender was headed on by Robyn Smitherman to Chloe Hall and the ball reached Emily Woodhouse. A quick pass onto Lizzie Nugent left the defenders floundering and she was able to lay it off to Lauren just inside the area. She shielded the ball well, held off a defender and shot low and hard and a mix up between a defender and goalie on the line enabled Lizzie Nugent to add the final touch to see that the ball crossed the line.

Six minutes later, Tilly played a good ball through to Lizzie, whose shot had accuracy and force but the goalie managed to get her whole body behind the save.

On sixteen minutes Darts had another chance from Emily Woodhead’s corner into the area which was met by a good header from Chloe which looped agonisingly over the bar.

Shortly after this, a poor pass out from Lauren Owen in Darts’ goal was intercepted by Diamond’s No 17, who had the whole goal to aim at, but fired it straight back into Lauren’s arms.

Chloe Hal and Jay Cartwright in the central defence positions had their work cut out on a few occasions as Diamond tried to exploit the high bouncing ball, but they stuck at their tasks well and for the most part snuffed out the Diamond attackers.

On 22 minutes, Robyn Smitherman on the half-way line, played it out to Amy Brooks who fed it onto Lizzie who beat her marker and forced her way into the area but was half-blocked by a defender. The ball came out to Emily Woodhead who smashed the ball back towards goal and it soared over the keeper’s head for an excellent strike to make it 2-0

A good long-range effort after 24 minutes from Lauren Bullen, was on target but again the goalie was well-placed to stop the shot.
Half-way through the first half, Annie White replaced Emily, who had certainly had an excellent opening spell.

The next move surely deserved a goal. When Jay came away with the ball she fed it onto Lizzie, who passed quickly on to Alex Foulds. She passed to Beatrice Ogundele, well placed in the box, and her shot, unluckily for her, was saved by the right foot of the diving goalie.

Only minutes later, the goalie denied Beatrice for a second time After Annie’s pass had found Beatrice she shot well but the keeper stood her ground and stopped another certain goal.

Diamond only threatened on the odd occasion, and even then, Annie generally stopped their attacks dead in their tracks. In the 28th minute one such break up of an attack was passed out to Amy on the right ring, who duly played it on to Lizzie. Lizzie turned her defender and set up Beatrice with a good through-ball, but for the third time the keeper cut down the angle and denied her, after Beatrice perhaps took one touch too many before shooting.

As in previous matches, Darts managed to use their wings to good effect and some good penetrating balls cut the Diamond defence with Amy and Alex often getting the better of their defenders.

After 33 minutes, another good move was set in motion when Jay bravely headed away and a forceful move got through to Lauren who in turn fed it out to Alex on the left wing who crossed it just outside the 18-yard box and a thunderous shot was hit goal-bound but unluckily struck the left hand post and span across the goalmouth, eventually going behind for a goal-kick.

With ten minutes of the half remaining, Georgia Culpitt replaced Beatrice and within a minute Darts had their third goal. Jay once again brought the ball out of defence and passed on to Lauren who in turn played it to Georgia. She laid off a pass to Lizzie, who, from just outside the area, hit a wonderful strike that beat the keeper all ends up. 3-0

Kirsty Cameron joined in the fray for the last five minutes of the half as Darts continued to hold the upper hand.

There was still time for one last chance of the half for another goal. Annie, once again cut out a threatening through-ball, moved forward and played a long ball to Alex who took on and beat her ‘man.’ She played it inside to Tilly but was quickly surrounded by defenders, but still managed to lay the ball off to Annie who passed it out to Amy who had positioned herself just outside the penalty area. She looked up, took a stride, then hit a brilliant shot. Every thing was right about her shot – it was heading for the top-right hand corner but the keeper made a fantastic save, plucking it out of the air at the last second.

HT 3-0

Early on Diamond produced a long shot which had Lauren diving to her right but was pleased to see it go just wide of the post. It was the closest Diamond had got to scoring since the open-goal scenario 30 minutes previous.

Aimee Ascott replaced Lizzie and was soon in the thick of the action. A good strong break from Annie found Aimee who played it out to Amy on the right wing, from which she crossed a beautifully flighted ball almost onto the penalty spot, and Georgia was there to fire in a great shot which literally whistled inches past the right-hand post.

On 55 minutes, goalkeeper Lauren played out to Lauren Bullen. She passed to Kirsty, who in turn played it out to Alex. The ball ran to Georgia who hit a fine cross inside the 6-yard box but Aimee found herself in two minds of what to do, and in a whisker, the chance evaporated.

Kirsty played the ball nicely on to Tilly towards the by-line and Darts’ cleverly won the corner, after playing the ball against the defender’s leg. Nothing came from the corner on this occasion, but Diamond were beginning to have problems with their goal-kicks and there were several which lacked strength and didn’t gain much height, but even so the goal tally was not improved upon until the 64th minute.

A corner kick was taken by Alex but headed away very strongly and toe-punted away for another corner. Alex delivered the next one precisely into the box. Chloe did enough to put off the defenders and the ball ran free to Tilly who scored with ease for Darts’ fourth.
More goal chances came Darts’ way and soon after Emily and Lizzie returned to the field for more game-time, within ten seconds, Lizzie found herself with the keeper to beat but her shot was saved by the goalie’s trailing foot, which rebounded into the middle for Tilly, who left it for Georgia to hit another goal-bound shot but struck a defender and went away for yet another corner.

In the 67th minute, with Robyn now on in place of Alex, Annie made one of her strong runs through the middle and passed out to Aimee on the right wing. Aimee broke into the area and let go a fantastic shot that flew through the air, and beat the leaping goalie to make it 5-0.

Diamonds were now finding it hard to hold the rampant Darts’ forward line, in which Brittani and Kirsty were serving with some good balls up the touch lines.

Aimee found herself in a good shooting position but this time the goalie was well-placed to save with Emily breathing down her neck.
In the 77th minute, Emily picked a nice pass out to Aimee who crossed into the penalty area where it was met by Georgia. Her shot was parried by the goalie but the rebound fell nicely for Georgia to follow up to make the score 6-0

Beatrice came on for the remaining 15 minutes, replacing Tilly, and Diamonds still pluckily played on but without producing any penetration from midfield or their forwards.

On 80 minutes, Dartford’s 7th goal came about after Annie had brought the ball forward and found Aimee on the left. She took it into the area where Georgia took over, and when the ball finally reached Emily, she hit a rocket-of-a-shot from 12-yards to beat the keeper, who had little chance of saving.

With just over five minutes of the match remaining, Darts were awarded a free-kick when Diamond’s defender ended up sitting on the ball and handling. About 30 yards out, Annie shot strongly for goal and the goalie was beaten all-ends-up to bring Darts’ their eighth and final goal.
