This is sad news. One of the finest players I've ever seen in a Dartford shirt, an out and out goalscorer. RIP John.

One of my favourite players and one I followed when he was with the reserves playing in the Metropolitan league and when he moved up into the first team where he scored lots of goals.
The family home in Stone where I lived back then and I knew the family and remember the Ripley greengrocers my condolencies to them for this loss.
John Ripley RIP

Very sad news indeed.
I was lucky enough to know "Rip" very well, and l couldn't believe my luck when he agreed to manage the Sunday League team I ran... the mighty Southfleet Rams.

0 The most successful five years for the club were under his management.
A lovely guy and still a cracking player in his 50s as we found out in our training session!!!

Interesting fact, Dave, I didn’t know that. Would he have been manager when the Rams came against our Dartford FC Supporters team?

I think Rip joined the Rams in the mid to late 1990s Gary, and left around 2000 or 2001, so that may have been after the Dartford Supporters matches with the Rams. I'm sure Parky will correct me, but had the supporters team become Welsh Tavern by then?
I remember he played a couple of games for us when we were short, and at my request, l came on as sub in one of those, so l could claim to have played alongside the great John Ripley!
He then developed a keen interest in amateur dramatics, and went on to be quite a renowned impersonator of Max Miller, the old musical hall star!

A great guy who will be greatly missed.
RIP Rip!
