Mark Sweet wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:59 am A point gained? We were 2-0 up and cruising at HT

There is no ambition at this football club

Directors tweeting that we should be happy with where we are and to be patient and now Ady coming out with a point gained?

2 seasons ago we were a penalty shootout away from another National South playoff final. We're now happy to be sitting mid table in the Isthmian league, drawing against Chichester and hoping for a run of form to see us secure a playoff space at best. Our playoff record his horrendous why are we not pushing to try and win the league.

Look at Dover, setting the example how to rebuild and are sitting at the top of the league with only one thing in mind, win it and avoid the lottery of the playoffs.
Did they take a total new squad from scratch, no they didn’t they held some of the players from last year and brought in a few players to strengthen where they need.

Unlike us that had to rebuild with a total new squad, not that was a bad thing, might have been three I might have kept!

If you are so dis-satisfied why do you bother even going to the games or commenting on the forum, because you are just becoming boring now!
You are what’s wrong with this forum.calling someone out who pays their money and uses their time and invests emotion but dares to have a different opinion to you.
Saying why do you bother going is shameful from you.
Albeit a small one but also an added personal insult.

To be frank I think you should apologise, the only one who should think twice about commenting on the forum is you.
Kent C you have you opinion and I have mine, that’s why it’s called a forum as Spike has posted, however as I pointed out Mark doesn’t come on with positives only ever sees the negative in the game.

We all want what’s the best for the club and in my 45 years supporting the club are disappointed on where the club is and yes could things have been different then yes they could have and we might not be where we are today.

Have a good day.

I think when you see a post from Mark straight away you think' oh here we go '.
But with Mark he doesn't disappoint.
You seem to be drawn to reading it even though you're telling yourself to skip it. And then you are annoyed with yourself.
Wouldn't have him any other way though.
He's fun.

I know we've been there, done it.( Talking NLS) And I know 15 years on general opinion is that's where expect to be now.
But I'm hoping that Ade is the new Burman. What happened to 'patience'? We have a new squad, a new manager with new ways.
I seem to remember when we got the stadium the fortune's of the club grew every other season. We got promoted then a season of consolidation and then next promotion.. It took us eight seasons to go from ILN to the National League Premier.
No one has any patience these days. If Ade gets us promoted this season it's not going to be automatic it's going to be through the play offs. If he doesn't achieve this he has next season to do it his way.
But lord help him if it all goes pear shaped early on if this season is anything to go by.
Up the Dart's.

Spike wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:08 pm I take your point Kentc and with regard to Mark's recent comments, some would appear to be justifiable and valid. However, there are undoubtedly some things our club does well and some things it doesn't. It's fine for people to call out the things they are unhappy with, that's the whole point of the forum, but you would think that anyone who supports the club would at least once in a while have something positive or constructive to say. There are one or two who seem to revel in ripping into every aspect of our club and if an individual only ever posts negative stuff, often even before the kick-off, and never has a good word to say about anything, I can well understand why someone might ask them why they bother coming.

Like Mark, I worry that the club may be lacking ambition and I am disappointed that a promotion focused statement of intent has not been forthcoming as I would have thought getting back into the National League would have been our prime target and number one objective. Rightly or wrongly, the wishy washy information (or should I say lack of information) emanating from the club has given the impression that we are not too bothered about this. I'm not saying that heads should roll if we don't get promoted, merely that we should at least be committed to making it happen asap. Obviously, supporters recognise that rebuilding from scratch has put Ade at a massive disadvantage so I don't think most fans expected miracles, but I do think they were hoping for a sense of purpose coupled with steady progress on the pitch. Whilst the former appears to be lacking (at least, publicly), the latter does seem to be getting there as a 7 game unbeaten run does constitute a significant improvement on the pitch.

It's not all bad.
I think that that’s the real cause of irritation on the terraces, the complete lack of ambition shown by the board. This may not be the case but without a clearly defined objective it’s difficult to know what the board really want. I’m sure they’d all say publicly that promotion via the play offs is the objective but Ade does need time to get a new squad of players to gel.
I don’t think he helped the cause however signing and then releasing three players and no new players appear to be inbound at present.
Hopefully they weren’t released due to lack of budget
The lack of information from the club is a real problem and has been for many years, hopefully someone will correct this in the near future

I'm not entirely sure that they would. If they did then that would at least be something, but as far as I'm aware and listening to Ade's Radio Kent interview after the Lewes game, the board haven't set this as an objective, if they have set one at all. The conclusion that I draw from this is that they are happy to just plod along and see how we go for the next couple of years in the Isthmian. For a club that has been consistently on the fringe of getting back into the National League PREMIER, up until very recently, this is a miserable prospect and it is understandable that many fans feel the club lacks ambition. It also means our excellent academy will lose their place in the National League U19 alliance if we don't get back into National South by the end of next season. The apparent lack of urgency and no clearly stated intention, does give the impression that we are in the midst of an apathy epidemic.

If what you say turns out to be true Spike, I fear what will happen to attendances. I’m already cherry-picking away games. Season Ticket purchase will be in serous question if this ‘apathy’ continues. The Board NEED to be noting that because for every one person saying it, ten others are thinking it.

On the plus side, the players have a good never-say-die attitude, are fitter than in recent seasons and are improving all the time. Winning football matches fixes everything and we are 7 games unbeaten. I reiterate, it's not all bad
