Bland just signed for Ramsgate
Re: DFC Player updates 26/27
I wonder if any managers who failed at a club left and then went to another club and signed some of the same players for more money cos they gave them a bigger budget.......Just wondering

The strange thing is he hasn’t even taken the better players we had, out of the 3 so far Bland was I think more impressive last year but only on occasion the other 2 had form issues throughout the season.Park Life wrote: Thu Jun 18, 2026 8:59 pm I wonder if any managers who failed at a club left and then went to another club and signed some of the same players for more money cos they gave them a bigger budget.......Just wondering![]()

Whatever is made of Pennock’s two years at DFC, there can be little doubting the man’s affability. Henly, Jones, Bland and possibly one other that escapes me have all followed him to Ramsgate. He must be something of a patriarch.
Quite liked Bland with Carter last season. Eminently replaceable though. Agree with most about Henly - had a mountain to climb getting fans on board after a woeful start but pretty much did just that. Speaks volumes for our season that Jones took the player of the season vote. I’d have missed him after 24/25 but not this season. He’ll score 10-15 goals for Ramsgate but again, replaceable.
As for the way our team is shaping up, there are some promising signs but we have a very rustic, home grown feel. Getting ‘least predictable season of PP era’ vibes…

I’m a card-carrying pessimist, as most who know me will testify. However, this season I’m more optimistic, pre-season, than I can remember. That’s a good sign - right?
Re: DFC Player updates 26/27
Definitely a good sign. We were fooled in the first pre season of Dowson by his easy going eccentric manner and by half way through his first season he was sussed as a complete maniac. We were then fooled by Ade’s false professional manner and by the time his second pre season was underway we knew he was going through the motions and saying the same old shite when he was bothered to record an interview.Sleightly Deceptive wrote: Fri Jun 19, 2026 11:22 am I’m a card-carrying pessimist, as most who know me will testify. Hopefully Ben will be very different and become an honest manager that will genuinely do the best for DFC

Couldn’t have summarised it better Rambo!
I just hope we are not adding Ben to those stats in May. I have a gut feeling he’ll do well.

Re: DFC Player updates 26/27
I like the way this squad is being put together, they are predominantly (in most cases) younger hungry players on the way up - mixed with a couple of very experienced players.
Ben appears to know amd have a very good knowledge of the lower leagues and I hope we can find a couple of players that are real gems. Looking at Lorenzo's stats for a left wing back, it looks like an incredible signing, however I do recognise it was two levels below.
I think we are in for a very entertaining season, I hope Ben is given time as these players in their early 20's will meed it, especially if stepping up the leagues. It seems Ben is building a squad for the longer term rather than buying one for the short term.
