FA cancels non-League football season at steps five and six

The Football Association has cancelled the season in non-League steps 5 and 6 immediately as a result of coronavirus.

But no decision has yet been made to decide whether teams will be promoted or relegated.

It follows a pre-arranged conference call between the FA and representatives of clubs in in step five and six leagues, five or six levels below the EFL.

In a statement, the Essex Senior League said: "The consensus was there is no option of any football being played for the rest of this season due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"Even if the FA were to extend, it wasn't going to be possible to complete remaining games, also subject to being allowed to socialise by May.

"The FA League Committee are to determine the terms of that conclusion which seems at present to be a 50:50 split between PPG promotion/relegation or complete Null and Void of the 2019/20 season.

"That decision is not the leagues to make but the FA Leagues Committee. Once a decision is conveyed to the leagues it will be consistent across the NLS system - if null and void is the FA decision there will be NO promotion or relegation for 2019/20 season."

There are 14 amateur divisions in each of step five and six: The Combined Counties League, Eastern Counties, Essex Senior, Hellenic , Midland, North West Counties, Northern Counties East, Northern, Southern Counties East, Spartan South Midlands, Southern Combination, United Counties, Wessex and Western Leagues.

Our season could be void, I understand the National league want the league to be played out, but the leagues below are favouring a null and void season with no promotion or relegation.

In trying to maintain some sort of perverse positivity, I'm now relieved we never had Steve King at the helm at the beginning of pre-season. It would be tough to take if we were running away with the league only to end up with the campaign being declared nul and void.
SK's first job was to steer us away from the relegation zone with a view to a serious assault on the league next season. So we are still on course for that.
It's just a bit gutting that the manager has exceeded expectations by putting together a cracking side ahead of schedule.
Fingers crossed we will get the chance to have a crack at the play-offs, should we get over the crisis quicker than expected.
I won't be holding my breath though, not with the morons roaming the countryside, thinking it's clever going skinny dipping or hiking up bloody Snowdon. And as for some of the childish parents, just because your kids are off school, it's because there is a pandemic. It's not a bloody holiday you twats!
On a personal basis, like all of us, I hope the footie does resume sooner rather than later. I'm doing my bit by backing Boris all the way. I just hope that by the time things get back on track, I haven't gone stir crazy and ended up in a padded cell somewhere.

And it’s been confirmed that all results below National league have been expunged and the leagues stay as they are. No one from our league will be relegated. Wonder if the National League will follow. Statement below:

I wouldn't be too surprised if this same statement goes all the way up the pyramid eventually. At the very least I think the team in top spot are champions and the team at the very bottom relegated (except from the NLS an NLN of course). If we are out of the current situation sooner rather than later then perhaps a mini league to decide other promotions/relegations. If the lockdown lasts too long then the pressure builds on next season and of course the Euros now scheduled for 2021 so inevitable that all leagues' records expunged.

I seriously doubt if there will be any promotion or relegation this season from any leagues.
