Tony Burman named in Top Managers of the Decade

Post by PeteSamson »

It's been a long time since I started a thread and it is a bit of a surprise to me that nobody else has picked up on the story and started a thread on the subject.

However, in last week's edition of the Non League Paper, there was a 2 page spread on pages 4 & 5 on 'Who is the Top Boss?, looking back over the past decade.
Unsurprisingly, the Cowley brothers were regarded as the Poster Pin-ups for their successes at Concorde, Braintree and Lincoln City.
Tony Burman and personally, I am delighted his achievements on behalf of DFC have been recognized and remembered at a national level.

As it happens, other names up in the list include Steve King, Neil Cudgley and Gavin Rose. The full list was 31 names, and although Tony was the last to be named, I don't think the names were in any particular order, but were popular choices from supporters of those managers who deserved recognition.

Cowley brothers
Anthony Johnson & Bernard Morley- Salford City
John Coventry - East Thurrock
Michael Clegg - Atherton Collieries
John Flanagan - Curzon Ashton
Darrell Clarke - Salisbury City
Jason Ainsley - Spennymoor
Micky Mellon - Fleetwood and Tranmere
Paul Fairclough - England C
Gavin Rose - Dulwich Hamlet
Neil Cudgley - Folkestone
Marc White - Dorking Wanderers
Peter Beadle - Hereford United
Alan Devonshire - Hampton & Richmond and
Maidenhead
Justin Edinburgh - Newport County, Leyton Orient
Paul Doswell - Sutton United
Steve King - Farnborough, Whitehawk and Welling
John Underwood & Neil Bakee - Godalming, Slough
Bobby Wilkinson - Hungerford, Wealdstone
Tom Killick - Poole Town
Billy Heath - North Ferriby, Halifax
Gary Johnson - Cheltenham Town, Torquay Utd
Alan Dowson - Hampton & Richmond, Woking
John Askey - Macclesfield Town
Jay Saunders - Maidstone Utd
Neil Young - Chester City
Gary Mills - York City, Gateshead
Dave Challinor - Colwyn Bay, AFC Fylde
Kevin Wilkin - Nuneaton Borough, Bracknell
Neil Aspin - FC Halifax

There are a lot of top names in that list.
Congratulations to Tony on making it onto the list.

Let's hope SK can continue that success, and his own success, into the next decade with the Darts

We all knew what a great job he had done (and continues to do for us) so it's nice to get recognition from outside the club as well.
Well done TB.

I didn't see that article but its good to see Tony getting some recognition from external sources as well as being a legend at our club.

It doesn’t surprise me that TB has been recognised for the impact his tenure at Dartford has had on football locally and nationally, too. What a fine figurehead of our club.

Difficult to know what part of the ground we have Barry, that we could put a name too. It would probably be one of the bars? Which to me wouldn't seem suitable.

Tony Burman is an incredibly difficult act to follow. He is the ultimate club legend and I am very grateful for his selfless dedication and outstanding success. I think we ought to set up a DFC crowdfunding page for a big wooden coolbox to go behind the big wooden man!

The only other fitting honour would be to rename Princes Park the Anthony Burman Stadium, and I can't see that happening.
He's already got a road named after him up Watling Street.
The guys already a legend.
