A cashless society

Post by Rambo »

I am constantly amazed that we have cash only turnstiles ( unless of course they accept cards at the other end of the stadium)
At the car park end most games i come across people that suddenly see cash only signs and a group of mates are searching pockets for cash with the guy at the gate saying the nearest cash machine is at the petrol station ! Come on chaps this 2019

I see the bar accepts card payments. My mate has had an ice cream van for 20 years plus and in July he realised that customers wanted to pay by card so he reluctantly got a card facility then later added an app to his phone so customers just tap his phone. The extra money he makes is remarkable

I know it wont be the same immediately at PP if we did it as there is no passing trade but in time people will know the club has card machines and it will have impact on the numbers coming through the door

I assume it is expensive to bank cash so the club will also save money on banking. It is also safer for the operators not to have a stash of money in front of them with lunatics all over the place and there is less risk of losing money or people walking off with the money

Let’s move into the current century and be more professional and take advantage of matters to increase revenue.

And i have not even once mentioned the ludicrous fact that we continue to outsource the catering function at PP

Good idea but why attach all the moaning? Here’s an idea, walk up to a board member, make your suggestion and then your ‘constant amazement’ will cease. Either because the idea will be taken on, or it will be explained why it is not something that should be done at this time.

I am constantly amazed at the fact that many people feel the need to tap away at a keypad rather than do something more constructive about their ideas.

This is a big advantage of being a supporter of DFC. Every single supporter has easy access to the people running the club. Yet cowardly spouting off on anti-social media as I call it, seems to be many people’s modus operandi.

Moaning cowardly spouting on anti social media 🤣are you having a bad day mad mod
My statement is from observations and if you think it is cowardly spouting by a keyboard warrior I think you need a lesson on how public forums work
You constantly urge posters not to post but instead have a conversation with board members. I am sure Steve Irving and co do not want a queue of fans on match days asking questions that cannot possibly be answered on the spot
Thank you for your valuable input

I don’t believe it would be to much of an issue as I pay with my programme with my card in the club shop!
So it may be just an extension of the facility, but Steve may be able to advise you.

For the record, I once paid Via debit for a FA Trophy game in the main stand front desk. The bottom line is that there is an option to pay if you ever turn up without cash in your wallet Rambo. Now, speaking from an EPOS expert point of view...I oversee a couple of shops in London and the more terminals you have the more it will cost. I have switched my merchant supplier twice in 6 years at my job, I have used Elevon but now moved back to WorldPay, where I pay circa £30 per terminal with a 1.8% transaction fee.

The cheapest option would be to setup a SagePay account where you would only be charged a merchant fee but it would need a computer savvy operative to take payments. Then again I am relatively slow on a keyboard (cica 40wpm) and it takes me around half a minute to take payment.

Thanks jonty that’s useful, next time I see a fan struggling to find cash I’ll tell them to walk round the corner to the office
However I still feel you must give the paying public what they want and I find it incredible they can’t tap a card to pay

But does the public paying to get into a football match really want to go cashless? I certainly don't .
