Darts v Woking (Sat 23rd Feb 3pm)

Post by spike »

The Woking match thread, as requested by Jonty.

It would probably have been better if this match had been a month or two down the line, so that Woking could have calmed down a bit. In our recent encounter, the fact that their players and officials managed to get enough cards to open their own branch of Clintons was of course, everybody else's fault but theirs, so we can expect them to be fired up. I'm surprised we haven't segregated them as they always seem to have a few hostiles amongst their number even though the results haver usually gone their way. We're definitely on an upward curve now and if we play to our max, there's no reason why we can't turn them over again.

Woking have signed two more players on loan and Tarpey seems to have hit form during Tuesday night's match as well, so I expect this to be a tough match.

I expected it to be a tough one before Tarpey, Linc. The only counter we have to that is if Charlie is back with Phil and try and accommodate Darren in an otherwise settled team that has been playing well for the last few fixtures, apart from the Slough game where we had a lapse of concentration.
I do hope that the Woking supporters do not turn up with a belligerent attitude, and enjoy the game, even if they are on a loser.
Whereas, I am expecting us to lose, and will being proved wrong once again.
Up the Darts.

I have never seen McQueen play but judging by Spike's enthusiasm and from what little I saw against Slough, he looks the type of player who 'worries' defences. One would like to think that he can start, but wouldn't mind if he was brought on late on.

Obviously no segregation tomorrow since no news (unless I've missed it). Woking fans seem confident on their board with many fancying Tarpey to find the net. JCAF have a decision to make if Charlie is available, but I favour Roberts and McQueen getting the nod to start either way.
If we manage to get the better of them at home - and we do have a decent chance - then I dearly hope that it is on playing merit and not due to contentious refereeing decisions as their oiks will likely cause some kind of trouble. Doing the double over the cards would make our weekend so let's make ourselves heard around PP.

Good game that should attract one if our biggest attendances this season, would like to think we can get around 1500 +.
As for the game they have won their previous 3 since we managed to win the away fixture and have gone above Torquay into first place so confidence should be high. Personally I think it will be very tight ending in a 2 - 2 draw.
Always liked our games against Woking as they are a really strong traditional non - league club, they have a good manager in Dowson who got a really strong H @ R team together last year.

Not sure if the ex Darts Bertie, Duane and Nathan will be involved today but it would be good to see them playing again if they do.

Nathan has been a regular all season.
I don't predict scores, back four have been immense lately and would like to think we could keep their front line quiet. A big ask, I know.
With McQueen's worrying tactics, I feel that Phil will revel with the crowd behind him and the team in general.
I feel we are more than capable in rolling these over. It's going to be tight but would like to think we can put in a good shift. Midfield likely to be the winner here.
Win ugly or downright trounce them.

We will need to be at our best but we have shown in recent weeks that the squad is the strongest it has been all season. We will certainly need more of the ball than we managed at Slough last week if we to cause Woking problems. The weather is going be ideal for a competitive, fast flowing match and with a big crowd expected it should be a cracker. It would boost our play off credentials to register a second win against the league leaders and joint favourites for the title. But we will probably need to keep Tarpey quiet if we’re to achieve it.
