Sad indeed about Malcolm, our regular no.6 in Alf Ackerman's team when I first started watching the Darts in 1961. Strong and loyal and often referred to as tall and balding in the press, I believe he was playing as left-half for West Ham until a certain Bobby Moore came along.

Malcolm had a picture on the wall which he regularly pointed to saying that man took my place. Yes Brian your correct a certain Mr Moore.

Bald Eagle had a passion for DFC. Happy to have had him with us.

Malcolm was a big hearted wing half (midfielder)
he was DF C through and through.
He was a regular throughout the 1960s and scored some
good goals from distance.

A sign of the times as we all get older. Very sad to hear this news. He joined the Darts in my last season as a kid following the Darts before my family moved up to Merseyside. I hadn't realised until BrianL's post this evening though that Malcolm had been a prominent member of West Ham's promotion winning old 2 Division team, even though I knew he was ex West Ham player.
I had assumed he was a part of their reserves set up.
He certainly gave Darts good service in 2 spells during the 60's.

RIP Malcolm. Thanks for the memories.

George Purcell's stay at Great Wakering didn't last long. He has signed for Ashford Town, his fourth club this season.

Had to get up in the loft today for some stuff and came upon my box of old DFC programmes - and there they were; the old DFC editions from way back. Remember "The Athlete's Beverage, Truman's Beer"? And also that name "Malcolm Pike". We quickly describe today's and recent players as "legends" and some will be seen that way for ever - Elliot B, Nobes, Ryno, etc. and rightly so. Malcolm Pike was another who achieved that accolade. RIP.

In the early '70s Malcolm was landlord of The Plough in Lowfield Street (now demolished ready for Tesco) and he invited Bobby Moore and Brian Dear down for a grand opening or re-opening. Managed to get in an gather up an autograph. Too young to remember Malcolm as a player.

Charlie and Sam Blackman both in Leatherhead's line-up as they lose 3-0 at Bowers & Pitsea in Isthmian Premier in front of 181 spectators. Suspect we can regard these two as players of the past now. Max Cornhill in Bowers team.
