I watched the Scottish Cup Tie between Kelty Hearts and Auchinleck Talbot on the BBC Channel last night which the visitors won 3 - 0 and found a new hero, well a bit of one anyhow. Nathan Austin didn't do anything special for the home side on the pitch but in an interview shown at half time he was asked why he had left full time Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Championship to move south to join part time Kelty in the Lowland League. He said family reasons was the driving factor and he had plenty of offers, but chose Kelty as they have a nice set up and importantly offered him £100 a week more any other club. As a family man he could not ignore that and signed on, how nice to hear a player joined a club because of the cash on offer and not for the 'exciting project'. I know players often get called mercenary, but they are professional so why not accept the best offer? Players must know by now what a chance they are taking by joining clubs like Kelty, who are getting good financial backing at the moment, so they have to weigh that up when making any decisions.
Ozymandias I got Bonnyrigg's tie mixed up they are away to Fraserborugh today, there were seats available on the supporters coach for £15, unfortunately it left the ground at 9-00am. Rose are top of the Lowland League at present 1 point ahead of Kelty who have a game in hand and a goal difference of +40 after 7 games, not bad and the aforementioned Nathan Austin has scored a good few of those so he is earning his money at the present.
Spell checker doesn't like all these Scottish names, plenty of red underlining on the draft version. .

Hi Llamaman, been 'out of the loop'. having been away. Wouldn't have a clue on most things going on here. Not even Bonnyrigg Rose's scores. The only thing that worries me since I've been playing 'catch up' is the mention of Jamie Day. :x

A date for your diary Ozymandias 18th October 7-00pm live on tv Bonnyrigg Rose v Buckie Thistle Scottish FA Cup tie. So if you have Sky or Virgin tune in to the BBC Scotland Channel to see the Roses in action. My favourites Fort William are away to Albion Rovers, a day out at Hampden next spring may be just a pipe dream, but a chance to get a tie at Ibrox or Parkhead with a couple more wins isn't beyond possibility for these little clubs.

Another weekend of international football and the big matches are live on the tele. Yes the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup is back.
Stenhousemuir v Waterford tonight and Partick Thistle v Connah's Quay tomorrow tea time, on BBC Alba and Sc4 respectively. Commentaries in Gaelic and Welsh just add to the experience. With all this publicity there could be record viewing figures.

An entertaining match last night, swung both ways until Stenhousemuir won it 3 - 2 with a goal in added time. There was a non-gaellic speaking co-commentator so it swung between two languages. A half-time piece about the history of Waterford with a mix of subtitles and English was interesting too. Another of my Scottish programmes 'View from the Terraces' had an item on Hawick Royal Albert FC, which showed they had an old stand with the bench seating just like that which Watling Street had before individual seats were bolted on, a little stroll down memory lane.

Big weekend of cup football, both the proper stuff and that rugby malarkey. Top of the bill are obviously the Darts tomorrow afternoon when King takes on the Kings at Princes Park for a right royal battle. Saturday and Sunday mornings England and Wales are trying to reach the Rugby World Cup semis and this evening it all starts with Bonnyrigg Rose take on Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup. Being live on The BBC Scotland Channel and The BBC iplayer I expect the viewing figures for Corrie and Enders will take a hammering. So much excitement over such a short period.

I see that Neil Lennon liked the win over Lazio in midweek to a Champion's League performance. Pity that they'd already been there and fluffed that one.

Google BBC / Yardley the dog, to see a special fan. A regular at Pollok FC, the picture is actually from an away match at Birbinie, so a true supporter.
Pollok (Pollock, both seem acceptable) play in the wonderfully named McBookie.com West Region Premier Division and are based in West Glasgow.
Older fans will remember their most famous old boy, Bobby Collins, a wee terrier of a midfielder who played for Celtic, Everton, Leeds and Scotland, a Lee Noble type of player.
An update for Ozymandias, Bonnyrigg won their televised Cup match 2 - 0, with a fluke and a worldie. Not the best of games, good old Kenneth Wolstenholme would describe some games as not particularly exciting but interesting, coded language for what we could all see for ourselves, this match is a pile of old … In the next round it is a home draw against the mighty Montrose from the Scottish League First Division, the winners will enter the next round draw with Celtic and Rangers etc. The match will be played on a big day of cup football, 23rd November when the Darts enter the F A Trophy in the 3rd Qualifying round.
