Both teams were as bad (or good defensively) as each other. If Sheringham had tucked away the sitter early on it would have been a different game

A very disappointing result, I think that all the hard pre-season games and resulting injuries have taken their toll. It was always going to be a hard match but with our massive squad, you would still expect a better performance, maybe we just peaked too soon. SK will undoubtedly rotate the team for the first league fixture against Chelmsford, who were also knocked out of the cup.

Followed the game via the Slough Rebels Radio coverage which was excellent, very neutral and went asfar as suggesting Slough were fortunate to have all 11 players on the pitch and DFC should have been awarded a stone wall penalty.
Either way dissapointing result, but could be the shot in the arm we required for a strong campaign in the league.

I think we need to take a rain check on everything. We have the best manager outside the football league possibly in that framework. Slough spoilt today with there antics superbly backed up by the referee. Our midfield geniuses were never able to get going properly. Bring on Chelmsford Tuesday i can't wait

Last season we played 4 3 3 and got into the play offs with some exciting effective football . pre season we played 4 1 3 2 and looked ok but pretty powder puff up front and today was no different . The back 5 played really well and Slough hardly had a decent sniff at a goal but the " tippy tappy "" midfield were outthought by Slough and the strikers ineffectual , Romain will score goals but NOT from right or left wing !!!!
Still only the 1st competitive game but some thinking for Steve King on tuesdays line up
MOTM Barnham Bobb for his excellent defending and consistant fast attacking runs although Bonner and Vint were also very good
Very early days but rapid improvement in midfield/strikers needed for tuesdays game

I honestly thought both fullbacks were poor when going forward & over lapping, their crosses were terrible and half the time got blocked.
We basically lacked any kind of wingers and our forward play was very poor, we just seemed to lump the ball forward every time going back to our old style of play.
Marsh-Brown was poor when he came on but unless he was still carrying an injury should’ve been out there from the start along with Modeste.
We seemed to have to many new players all starting at once and they didn’t have a clue how everyone played.
Considering the pre season we had this was a very bad start.

Maybe start a thread about the streaming. And keep this for the game. I say again about the match I believe Slough did a job on us. Some part down to some huge named players having a very quiet day to say the least.
Trouble is Reg, thanks to the streaming it is difficult to fully assess our performance as we missed so much of it. Even when it was working in the first half, the picture was so juddery it gave me a headache trying to follow the ball. From what I did see it was fairly even and the only difference was they were awarded a penalty and we were robbed of one. It wasn't a great start, but I think people were so p***ed off with the streaming that it's added to the general disappointment. We've seen all these great players arrive and we've done so well with the play-offs and all the friendlies and the excitement level was high. It was frustrating enough that we couldn't be there but with the pi** poor technology and then the last minute defeat it feels like the whole day has turned to sh**! It would be very easy to lump all that disappointment together and take it out on the team's performance, but we shouldn't get carried away. There's so much quality in our squad I'm confident all will come good.
Today was a blip. Keep the faith.

Blimey I nearly expected a Kingie out post next! Truth is that this is a reality check for everyone, we are not going to romantically dance thru the meadows to the leauge title, too many good teams out there! Kingie not there was a massive downer, his presence esp in the refs ear would of massively helped! I thought we missed Modeste he would of drawn so many fouls and created chances. It may have been the picture but I thought one or two looked like they were carrying some spare timber, like myself!! Plus side fa cup not going to make any club a fortune this year with COVID, u can draw Liverpool at home and with no fans won’t make anything but prize money. Onwards to Tuesday a really tough game. A really big thank you to the Crayford arms for allowing us to watch game there and treating us so well, beer was excellent and company was brilliant, apart from result was a really good day.
