I’d be delighted to have a manager who has proven record of first steadying a ship then getting a team promoted into the National League even if you could argue they over achieved. A measure of the management style?

Then establishing in the National League against the odds. I don’t consider this a safe option or a lack of ambition.

I’ve had enough of gambles. Gambles on managers, a gamble on a co management concept, gambles on players.

I don’t want to be here in 8 months time because the new manager has got the hump because he can’t have a squad of 35 players and a coaching staff of 10 with a masseur for the masseuse.

We have to remember who the club is and be realistic about who we can be. It is an uncomfortable truth that this club can never go into the Football League without restructuring the way it is financed and that would go against everything that has been set in stone since 1992. It would need a massive shift of opinion in the shareholders. Is there an appetite to GAMBLE with the very existence of DFC? I don’t think so, so pragmatism is required.

You can call it ‘the best fit’ with disdain but for me this is a very positive phrase in the context of DFC.

The "Kent Messenger" website suggests Tony is likely to still be in charge on Saturday, when Rob Howard will be available and Mark Onyemah may be fit.

Well, I hope that we keep the ball on the deck because with
Charlie injured and Cunnington gone we won't have anyone to win the ball if we lump it up in the air.

I understand the point you make in saying that we need to be realistic about our club and what is reasonably achievable on the financial side of things, and I do agree; we did punch above our weight in the Conference, which really was a testament to Tony and the squad that he assembled at the time? But you then say you have had enough of “Gambles”, well surely every player or manager the club appoints is a gamble? No one for sure can predict how that certain appointment will work out? That’s the gamble.
As mentioned before, our board are pragmatic, but will never allow our club to be subject to any managers, or player’s unreasonable demands, so I don’t think we need to worry about our clubs future existence?
So this term “best fit” is in my opinion irrelevant, it will only be recognised as a “best fit” if it works out well, and if it doesn’t; well that was the gamble?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post Capricorn. I accept your comment what isn’t a gamble but there are different levels aren’t there?

All I am saying is the new manager needs to be the type that will accept the club we are and can be. We can not go into the football league without a different financing model. The current shareholders, I don’t believe would be up for such a restructure. If there is a swell of opinion that things should change in this respect then any Tom, Dick or even a Harry can buy a share or 30 and be part of the decision making. It’s Christmas soon, who wants another pair of socks?

Anyway, slightly drifting from the manager topic so back on track. There are steady Eddie managers out there that fit and my guess is, as was from day 1 of the ‘search’ we will get one of them. I was not referring to TB in my previous post as I don’t think you could argue we established ourselves in the National League. After all we were relegated two seasons in a row.

I am willing to be surprised but this time I think we’ll have our man for 5 years at least. Those that still think we can be a major force in our current guise will be underwhelmed because I don’t think they can be brutally accepting of what our club is.

Interesting times.
