What wonderful tributes to John.
I always stood near him on the halfway line and we had many differences of opinion but it was always in good spirit.
Maybe we should have a fan of the year award and call it the John Hoverd
trophy.
With his families permission of course

Anyone going can you please pass on my deepest sympathy’s To John’s family. I can’t face another funeral this year , I have had to say goodbye to both my parents in the last few months and just can’t bring myself to go .

Yes , I walked out of Stonehenge road with John once and he was moaning about Brendon Cass .
"All he does is score goals" said he
I replied " you could say that about Jimmy Greaves"
His reply was " just because they score goals it shouldn't guarantee their place in the team....
PRICELESS!!

Someone has just reminded me of another funny story concerning John. When we were playing and struggling down at Ebbsfleet one of John's least favourite players was Simon Roberts. One game John was casting his usual opinion on the players performance when unbeknown to him the players father was standing nearby. He came over to John and asked "What do you know about football?, I bet you have never played the game".
John paused, look him in the eye and said."look my man I might never of been a bricklayer, but If I had watched someone laying bricks for over fifty years I would have a bloody good idea on what you should be doing".

And it's fair to say John wasn't a Ryan Hayes fan either. His favourite mantra when Ryno was playing was "Come on the ten men". But he was stopped in full flow one afternoon when Ryno cut inside from the right wing (as he so often did) and sent a sublime curling shot into the top left hand corner. John's response was, "He only meant it to be a cross into the box".
Nevertheless, John will be sadly missed on the half way line when we're all able to return.

These John comments are great and truly reflect his views. I have another gem for you 'you know, Tony may be a successful manager( he lists the numerous titles and cups won etc...) but then says 'but is he a good manager ?'...

It was a lovely service today, and given the current situation, a good turn-out, including flowers from the Club and former players Ryan Hayes, Elliot Bradbrook, Danny Harris, Lee Burns and Lee Noble.

A great touch from the 5 ex players, all of whom are still held in high esteem by us Darts fans.
