Cuts at the turn of the year had nothing to do with it at Welling. Dont rule out a new ground for them in the next year or two.

Welling had a plan to take about 10 metres of Danson Park and redevelop the ground, don't know if that is the same scheme. The reason given for making the cuts was that the hoped for increase in crowds and sponsorship didn't happen as hoped for, and the playing and backroom staff were reduced. I mentioned it to show that improved performances cannot guarantee increased income. Anyway that's all by the way, at least Mr. King's interview will be quick next week, come in Mr. King please sit down, what salary do you want for you and your staff? Ok that's been filled in on the contract so sign here please and welcome to Dartford FC.

We will find out soon who gets the job, wonder if the cup tie needs a replay will affect the timing?

Who goes into any job and dictates the wages. This is just crazy talk. The club will have a budget which will apply to all the candidates. As for welling it isnt the same scheme.

Right The Board decide that Steve King is their man and offer him the job at £xxxxx, he says he will do it for £xxxxxPLUS. What is your decision Reg?
You say give him the job on one hand, then say he cannot dictate his own wages - well he cant, but he can definitely ask for what he thinks he is worth. I'm sure it happens all the time, we were in talks but couldn't agree a way forward , or didn't share the same vision going forward. Translate as they wouldn't pay me what I wanted. I have no idea of what Steve King would ask would be excessive or not and he must know the going rate at our level. The Board will have a top limit, he will have a bottom limit, let's see if they match. Anyway there is a deadline for a decision 31st October.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but surely the club tells all the candidates what their salary and budget is and then pick the best person from those that choose to accept the job on those terms. It's not rocket science, it's very simple. Any candidate who thinks they're worth more than that which is being offered will rule THEMSELVES out of the job. People are making such a big deal out of this overspending nonsense but ultimately it is and will always remain entirely under the control of the board of directors. You pick the best candidate from those that are willing to accept the job on the terms set by the club. THE BOARD SET THE BUDGET!!! Everything else is just waffle.

THE BOARD SET THE BUDGET, I think that's what I said. The Board will have a preferred salary in mind, but may allow for a little lee way if they think it is worth it for the person they want, but with an upper limit they will not go beyond. Waffle it may be but it does fill the time in now the cricket season has finished and I don't have the latest scores to check up on. What will be the next topic to generate seemingly endless aimless posts back and forth I wonder?

I've got no problem with anyone putting forward their views about who should and shouldn't get the job based on their own personal opinions, but ruling ANYONE out on the basis that they might overspend is not a valid argument in my opinion. It keeps cropping up as an excuse to discard people who, on the face of it, appear to have a better footballing CV. I just hope the board make a decision based on who is likely to win the most matches rather than picking someone with a mediocre record and justifying it with this "best fit" nonsense.

With such a very important FA Cup game coming up I would prefer TB still be in charge for the next game at least. Not sure that this week is the best time for change.
Whoever comes in has to work within an agreed budget, I bet Steve Irving is getting a little hot under the collar reading this.

Entirely agree that the playing budget must be adhered to, I am more concerned that a manager and staff are not hired on excessive wages that adversely affect the clubs overall finances. The club have tried their preferred 'in-house' route without the desired outcome, so fully expect the net to be widen (haven't heard mention of any former Darts yet) for the best candidate to be appointed within sensible financial limits.

The fact that Welling didn't retain Steve King tells a story. His squad before the budget cut was huge. At one point there must of been 23 players on the roster. Welling had 5 centre halves and probably 5 centre midfielders at one point. Goldberg was throwing some of his own dosh at it too. There is no doubt SK is a very good manager with a fantastic CV but most clubs at this level will struggle to match his demands for very long.
