. What about the lad we had against Bognor Regis at home. Thought he commanded his box and handled confidently. Didn't he play at Cray Wanderers or some team Local. Carey was his name.
Also Jordan I believe. I'm thinking he was in goal for Wanderers as they knocked Dartford out from the Kent cup.

TB struggled to find an experienced keeper to provide cover for just one or two games as nobody wanted to loan out a keeper only for him to be sitting on our bench for 3 weeks. A consequence of which was that in two games we played young Beeney in goal and the poor sod wasn't ready for the job. His calamitous errors cost us a goal (and a point) in the 0-1 home defeat versus East Thurrock and another goal (2 more points) in the 2-2 daw at Hampton. In fact he made several disastrous errors at Hampton but we got lucky. I don't blame the lad and he'll probably be a decent keeper one day, but he clearly wasn't ready for this level of football. I am as certain as I could ever be, that Deren would not have made these errors and ultimately, those 3 extra points would have made us champions.

You are probably right in the fact that the lad Beeney may have cost us points in those two games mentioned, but to say that Deren would not of made those errors, i find astonishing.
Deren may be a great guy and Club-man , but IMHO i do not think Deren is a great keeper, albeit:he may be a good shot stopper, and he has a good kick on him, but he doesn't command his area, and is prone to crosses , and he has had his fair share of calamitous goalkeeping over the season , which ultimately led to him being dropped for the remainder of the season.
Wasn't it Deren that cost us three points against Chelmsford?. But to be fair to Deren; and all Goalkeepers in general, they do seem to take a large chunk of the blame for a teams poor performance ,Strikers can miss open goals, Defenders go to sleep, and Midfielders lose concentration. So the title was lost over the course of the season; by the team, not just those two games mentioned....

I was disappointed that we couldn't offer agreeable terms to Bertie who has gone to a major rival in our league. With Deren the official number 1 again, I of course wish him well but there was a good reason he was dropped last season?

It irks me that some of you otherwise lovely people pin the Chelmsford debacle on Ibrahim. He did flap at the corner which Hayes had inexplicably given away from 30 yards out (Hayes himself being extolled for scoring directly from a number of corners), so was probably half responsible for one point dropped, but don’t forget who it was that equalised long before that - the referee who awarded a penalty when there was absolutely no contact whatsoever. I can’t remember seeing a team awarded a penalty without any appeal before or since that one.

Bertie wanted full time football which we just aren't in the position to offer unfortunately where as the likes of Woking are. Not much more can be said of it, the only full timers we have that I know of are Deren, Tom Bonner & Ronnie Vint who are all linked to the academy to cover their extra money.
I can't think of any others in the team that are full time. Pugh used to be but when he gave up his Academy role for another job he went semi pro again.

If you were at the two games I'm talking about you would know that the lad in goal was completely overwhelmed and out of his depth. At Hampton in particular, he dropped 3 or 4 clangers but we were dead lucky and got away with most of them. My comments weren't particularly intended to be extolling Deren's virtues, in fact if I'm honest I think Berti was a step up in class, but what I am saying is that almost ANY experienced keeper at this level would have done better in those two games and I stand by my assertion that Deren's absence, and more significantly the lack of a suitable replacement, cost us 3 points which ultimately lost us the title. As I said before, instead of playing a novice, we could have got an experienced keeper in for a month if we'd asked Deren to sit out a few games to make the loan viable. All that stuff about keepers taking the blame isn't really the point because this was an avoidable situation and the only point I was making is that if would be daft to make the same mistake again.

Sorry R.S , but it must of certainly irked Tony Burman to have dropped him for the rest of the season???

Arthur Here, being the silly old fool that I am I may have missed peoples messages about Tom Murphy. He's a lovely boy and I wondered if he was signing.
