Didn’t Des Lynham once state on Grandstand
“They’ll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight” after a cup win?
And I believe they renamed their Fanzine after that quote?

It was Sam Leitch on Grandstand who uttered those words. (Not being clever, have just looked it up) David Coleman is often blamed becuase of his Colemanballs, but not guilty this time. It amused a lot of people in Scotland because there isn't a town called Raith, the Rovers play in Kirkcaldy. Historically Raith was an area of The Kingdom of Fife with Kirkcaldy right on the edge of it (Looked that up as well). Sam Leitch had a Scottish background so perhaps he was having a little in-joke to those in the know. Maybe lockdown has finally worn me down.

Llamaman, what was the match Brora V Kelty in aid of last night (Tuesday)? Both top of their leagues (Highland/Lowland)

Scottish League 2 play-off semi-final 1st leg. Highland League v Lowland League Champions for the right to play bottom of league 2 Brechin City for the right to play in that division next season. A Brechin win and everyone stays where they are, if they lose it will be The Highland League for them.
As Brechin have only managed 27 points (6 wins) from 49 games over the last 2 truncated seasons it doesn't look to hopeful for them. It does look promising for Kelty though as they take a 2 goal lead into the s/f 2nd leg.
A world away from this is Manchester City. It is often said in our non-league world that the top players don't care and are only interested in the money.
Well after watching their game against PSG last night they put that to rest for at least one match. Although it wasn't of the players making perhaps all the fuss about the failed super league inspired them to up their game just to show they do care.

Thanks for that Llamaman. Brechin have been in the league a while and Kelty and Brora are both the form horses, albeit Brora had only 3 games under their belt.
It would be a shame if Brechin dropped out having been in the league a while, but then you could say that about East Stirling and Berwick Rangers.
Nice to see Queens Park actually promoted too.
Knew I could count on you.

Hi Llamaman, I was astonished to see that Queens Park had been a losing finalist in the English FA Cup. (Pointless winners question. Yes, I watch it still).
Instead of looking it up I thought I'd ask you about it. As you make it much more interesting. :D

With no modesty at all I did 'add' £250 to the Jackpot with Queens Park. Pointless and the Chase are part of my daily routine.
1871/72 was the first season of the FA Cup and in the 1st Round Queens were drawn to play Donnington School. But agreement couldn't be agreed where to play the match so adapting the rules of the time where a draw saw both clubs progressing to the next both teams were given a bye. In the 2nd Round Queens were once again drawn against Donnington, but the School refused to play the match and Queens were awarded a walkover to the next round. This was the q/final & Queens were awarded a bye to the semis. They were drawn to play Wanderers with the match played in London ending 0 - 0. Queens couldn't afford to travel down South the following Saturday for the replay so withdrew giving Wanderers a bye to the Final. There they beat The Royal Engineers 1 - 0 at The Oval Cricket ground - naturally.
Until recently Queens were amateurs first going part-time and now full time. winning the Division 2 title this season. Proving they have fully grasped the modern they promptly sacked their manager. They used to own Hampden Park, but sold it to The Scottish FA last year. Their crowds of around 500 were rather lost in that arena, but from next season will play at Lesser Hampden with an 1800 approx, all seated capacity. Queens have won the Scottish Cup 10 times, 3rd in the list after guess who? The last time in 1893, their last appearance in 1900, the second of two losses. They reached the FA Cup Final twice, losing both times to Blackburn Rovers, 2 - 1 in 1883/4 & 2 - 0 in 1884/5.
Well worth a look on the BBC iplayer are the Classic Scottish Cup Finals, especially the 1 shown on BBC Scotland last night from 1991, Dundee United v Motherwell. A goalkeeper playing for over an hour with broken ribs, ruptured spleen & intermittent double vision, a kind of tartan Bert Trautman. The 2 teams were managed by brothers whose father had died in the week before the final. And proof that things were not always better back in the day, well regarding the offside rules at least. Full on non-stop excitement well worth 30 minutes of anyone's time. A European Super League couldn't get near it.

Brilliant, Thanks LLamaman. Beautifully rounded up by adding £250 to the jackpot
A mine of imformation, probably could have got it on WikiP but , Well done you.

Also, I know I have a beef about Celtic being the only team in Scotland but useless in Europe. But I must admit the Celtic win over Inter Milan in the European Cup was one of the best team performances ever, they were relentless.
Who were the team in the Black and White hoops? :D . God, my aching back.

Ozymandias if you ever find yourself in West Glasgow and there is preponderance of blue banners and Union Flags on display I would keep quiet about that idea of yours that Celtic is the only team in Scotland . Particularly not today Rangers were presented with the Championship Trophy winning the title by 25 points to end The Hoops 9 seasons of success. They got 102 points, were unbeaten in the League and only let in 13 goals. Celtic reached 106 points going unbeaten in 2016/17. Celtic claim Rangers cannot be called the Invincibles, just the League Invincibles as they lost in the 2 cup competitions whilst Celtic won the treble 4 years ago. The 2 other occasions teams went unbeaten in the top Scottish Division there were only 18 matches played, against 38 now. Celtic in 1897/8 with 15 wins and 3 draws, only to be topped by Rangers the following season who won all 18 matches.
I forgot to mention the real highlight of the Dundee United v Motherwell cup final. That was the Steelmen refreshing themselves with cups of tea, using china cups and saucers before extra time. Who needs flashy drinks flasks and energy drinks when there is a good old cup of builders at hand. Didn't spot anyone holding their cup with a little pinkie sticking out though, obviously not of the right type.
