Pre-Season Match Thread 2019/20
Re: Pre-Season Match Thread 2019/20
I thought Reno and Sheringham had good first halves thought they both looked fitter Luke W had a fantastic game and really excited about him putting crosses over for Sheringham

I can't get excited about pre season friendly's.
They are a evil necessity to get players fit and look at potential players.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Sorry to be a kill joy, but just expressing my opinion.

Tend to agree, HC. Not a particularly sparkling result, given the standard of the opposition, but a win's a win for all that, and the joint managers will have had a good look - and I shall probably be up at PP on Tuesday to see how we perform against the much slimmed-down 'Fleet squad.

The fact that I walked past a Darts fan who had fallen sound asleep whilst watching, tells you all you need to know about this game. It was your typical pre-season dullfest with little peaks of mediocrity to prevent the fans from falling into a coma. Not that I'm complaining, it was a very hot day and a good workout for the lads. We won the game, kept a clean sheet and picked up no injuries. Plus it was a decent goal from Jedd Smith too so job done.
MOTM for me was Luke Wanadio, I'm very pleased he's back.

Don't want to be a killjoy, but some of the comments make me think we've gone full circle. HC's comment is what it is. Getting the players to full fitness. Watching a pre-season must be like watching paint dry. Sitting in the heat of a July afternoon after a drink or three, hardly surprising some are going to fall asleep.
I suppose the only good result is that, as Spike says, we didn't pick up any injuries. Wow, 90 minutes gone. I suppose after the Andy Pugh injury in pre-season, that can be judged as a good result.
Who is Jedd Smith? Clues, anyone?
Sorry, I am such a killjoy.

Jedd Smith is from the Academy. Came on once last season down at Eastbourne, has been involved on the sub's bench a few times.

I believe Jedd is a young player who has come through the DFC youth system.

Never been a fan of Pre-season Friendlies, but they are necessary to gain fitness levels and also to look at potential new players? And as “TheLongHall” pointed out, these matches are more of a social “catch-up” than anything; so any quality football is always a bonus? And also Spike commented that the game was a “Typical Pre-Season Dullfest” but as he said “he wasn’t complaining”. “You pays your money and takes your choice” so no need to be a “killJoy” just take it or leave it?, and let us spare a thought for Trevor B ; speeding along the M25 at 2 MPH just to see he’s beloved Darts? Now that is dedication even though he never made it
, but respect to you TB. Must say the forthcoming fixture against the Orient looks very tempting ?

Capricorn 25
Thanks for that but if the truth be known it was my own bl**dy fault as I initially Googled the route and it said go A2 M25 and then onwards, so when I got into the car and the Sat Nav showed me to take the obvious and much quicker route that I know it seemed the choice to take.
Then on the M20 it suddenly announced road closed 1 mile ahead and all became clear it was referring to the slip off at M26.
Still more friendlies to come so I will certainly get to a few of them to make up for missing this one.
