Llamaman, I remember those 3 games very well. I was allowed the day off school and got the coach with my dad Trevor B from Watling St up to Bromsgrove for the 1st leg and remembering the coach being very quiet on the way home after losing 2-0 and as you said Peter Taylor missing the penalty. I was thinking that’s it we’ve blown it now losing that first leg we’ll never pull it back at home but boy was I wrong. A cracking 2nd leg at Watling St which we won 3-0 I think it was with Colin Johnson scoring a screamer for our 3rd goal.Llamaman wrote:Never mind about the Liverpool & Spurs comebacks, what about the Darts in the 87/88 Southern League Cup Final against Bromsgrove?
2 - 0 down after the first leg & missing a penalty, missed another in the second leg, then 3 second half goals made for a wonderful comeback triumph. One of the best nights at Watling Street. Then another final win in the Kent Senior Cup at Priestfield a wonder goal by Peter Taylor against Maidstone meant another cup came to Dartford.
Then at full time everyone running on the pitch to celebrate with the players and Stevie Robinson lifting the trophy, great times.
As for the 1-0 win against Maidstone at Gillinghams Priestfield stadium with Peter Taylor performing his magic by beating about 3 defenders before slotting the ball under Mark Beaney in goal the place went wild. I remember the police confiscating my airhorn and 2 cans on the way in and having to reclaim them after the game. This was when Gillingham still had their big terrace fencing up to stop anyone getting on to the pitch, pre Hillsborough days.
Great memories.
