Retained/Released players list

Post by Kebabus »

Will be very interesting to see who stays or is signed up from the Loans. Some clubs have already announced their lists, waiting with baited breath for our list.

Another busy recruitment period needed, shame that the club announced to the world that the playing budget will increase, that makes sense, not.

Will be interested to hear from you all, your opinions who should be signed up for another year.

Kebabus- There is an article in this week's "Messenger" in which one of the Managers mentions the difficulty they have in making firm offers to those players who were not fully fit at the end of the season, some of whom may need operations- with Pugh, Driver, Onyemay and Crook mentioned.

Jamie says they have eight to ten players coming to see them in the next week or so. He also says they will be looking for local people with a previous link with the club, for example through the Academy, who have played elsewhere to gain experience. I've been trying to think who they might be!!

The biggest problem I have with this latest interview is something we have discussed before about the spine of the team. He says he wants to build on it, but how can you when we don't have one to build upon. Who would he describe as the spine?

Agents will be hawking their players around the club's for the best
deal.There will be loadsa competition
A goalkeeper is priority imo we need a permanent keeper, I am not a fan Of loaned keepers who can get called back anytime.
Strikers are also priority, apart from Andy Pugh, imo we are not blessed in that department.
How do you replace Elliot? answers on a postcard please!
Bonner ,Vint and Noble hopefully retained and wynter,Johnson Greenhalgh possibly retained, also Mr marmite Hayes?
Then half a dozen new signings and away we go.
Thoughts anyone???

I suppose Wynter would strictly-speaking be a new signing, as he has thus far been on loan.

Barry would you not consider Murphy to be retained as he had very little chance to show his skills during the season being consigned to the bench for most matches but always seemed committed to the cause for DFC when given the chance to get on the pitch.

That is a very interesting quote and does get you thinking. Previous academy players I can think of are Ebou Adams (Contracted at Ebbsfleet and should be national league if not higher), Mo Eisa (he an injury hit season at Bristol City, league player), Femi Akinwande (I believe he was last at East Thurrock, blistering pace), Bode Anidugbe (was at Thamesmead before they folded, ended season at Ashford), Calvin Ekpiteta (ended the season at East Thurrock, midfielder). I know there are plenty more which could’ve made this a very very long post so feel free to add.

Well I'd agree with almost all of that but I wasn't a fan of Johnson, I felt he lacked mobility at full-back and was run ragged on more than a few occasions. I thought this might be because he's really a centre-back but we played him there once and it didn't go too well and the next time we were short in that position he wasn't picked to play there. Read into that what you will. As for Marmite man, I've always been a huge fan so I'd like to see him stay, even if he's getting on a bit I still think he can play an important part.

So I would hope to retain Noble, Bonner, Vint, Hayes, Pugh and the one and only decent signing from last year, Ben Greenhalgh. You could possibly add Onyemah to that list if he's fit enough. Of the loan players who were still with us at the end, Wynter looked a good player in many positions, so I'd be happy to see him signed up properly too. Nobody else makes the cut for me. This is all just my opinion of course, but when Jamie & Adam go shopping, for starters I think we need a goalkeeper, a couple of full-backs, a couple of central midfield players, one wide man and two or three forwards.

We live in interesting times.

I'd be very happy to keep Vint, Pughie and Noble. With if we could Jordan. Thought that Dan Johnson played some good games for us, but agree on his pace or lack of. But only caught out on 1/2 occasssion's. Felt he improved as the season went on. Greenhalgh? Maybe.
Mark Onyemah too if this injury isn't going to be an issue.

Other than that, a large replacement order is needed.

Good shout Trev B, I like Murphy ,always gives his all but I am not sure that our managers will give him a decent chance.
