I think we need to keep perspective here. There's an awful lot of stuff that our club is doing very well. Behind the scenes we are doing better than ever. Ventures like the business club are going very well. Our academy MAKES money, it doesn't lose it as some seem to believe. The club's profile in the town has never been higher. That is why our attendances (contrary to what so many people keep saying on here), have been going UP, not down. Our club is run very well, we are financially solvent and our future is secure. That side of things is pretty damned impressive, especially when compared to other clubs. We should be proud of the way our club conducts itself.

The only problem to address is what is going on out on the pitch. Obviously, all the behind the scenes stuff is great but we still need a modicum of success on the pitch to keep people interested. The budget isn't the best but TB has already proven what can be achieved. In my view, all our problems this season are a direct consequence of poor recruitment. Coyley & Flanners made mistakes right from the start, by putting the wrong players on contract and making bad decisions. When things went belly up, they tried to patch things up with loan players and bodge up emergency fixes like Joe Healy. Not that Joe isn't a decent player, but this sort of arrangement is never going to help get a settled side. It's a hard thing to fix once you've made these errors, not least because some of your budget is then paying part of the wages for players who are now on loan somewhere else or players you've committed to who are clearly not up to scratch. Cripes, I don't know what sort of deals we've done, but it seems we can't even call our loan guys back when we have injury crises like yesterday! All these changes, loanees and patch up jobs did eventually bring a bit of success for a little while, but has finally blown up in our faces. Nevertheless, the underlying reason why our season has fallen apart is simply because the recruitment was wrong from day 1.

The transition from the TB era was always going to be a difficult process, but a whole season has gone by and we haven't even begun the process. Coyley & Flanners are decent guys and I have no doubt their hearts are in the right place, but I think there has to be question marks over their judgement on players. I am fearful that the same thing will happen next season, but with the mood in the camp as it is and Bradders already definitely going, we may not even have our trusted "core" to dig us out of a hole. Unless there's some very significant changes, I fear next year could be significantly worse than this one.

Spike there’s been really poor decisions made across the club what’s showing on the pitch.
Remember TB has moe than a huge say in who comes in as well.
I agree the managers are decent guys but is that enough.
I don’t want them out I want them to come out and talk about mistakes they made and put it right. We all make errors but it’s how you learn or react to them so this now becomes more important.
I think the board etc do a great job that’s not in question day to day but some may think this set up is all happy families and not bold or ambitious.
Are we doing everything we can in our means to succeed on the pitch.
Definitely not.

M1 South
As i see it the only player they have brought in this season who was as good as what we had was Ben Greenhaigh (that's on a good day)!!
They should never have released ;
Berti
Nathan
Alex Brown &
Danny Harris......they had the Dartford ethos!!
I wont go into the Alex Wall fiasco cause i'll start crying again!!
None ,i'll repeat none of their signings or loanees brought in over the season have been up to the standard required, on & off the pitch!!
Yes Joe Healy has come in to help out & fair play to him but he's obviously not match-fit, Elliot hasn't been available for every game & there's no-one who came close to replacing him in centre mid.
I personally don't think bringing back TB to manage is the way forward but something needs to change sooner rather than later.......please!!
I have to agree with you M1 South from their performances most of the new signings seem to have little or no interest in playing for us and would perhaps have been happier sitting on the bench or not being picked as long as they got paid and it has diluted the team spirit we have always had over the last few seasons.

w.hoops wrote:' The only problem to address is what is going on out on the pitch' Surprising as this may be to you Spike - it's really the only thing I (and I suspect the majority of other supporters) am really interested in!
The football on the pitch is the only reason we come so of course it's not surprising, it's perfectly understandable. However, there has been more than a few comments implying that the cause of the problems on the pitch lay elsewhere, some people even trying to blame this collapse on Tony Burman, but I believe there are two guys at the helm and the buck stops there. So I was just trying to re-focus on the fact that the failings on the pitch are primarily because the managers stuffed up with their recruitment. M1 South is spot on with his list. They threw away some very good players and drafted in some very poor ones. The only thing the club may be guilty of is all this nonsense about appointing managers who know "the Dartford way". Even if such a thing exists, how does agreeing terms with Alex Wall and then chucking him out just a few days before the start of the season correlate to the Dartford way? I doubt Tony Burman would ever have done that to a player. In my view there is only the RIGHT way or the WRONG way and it doesn't matter a hoot if you played for the club before. In any case, it is certainly apparent that several of the players on the pitch have absolutely no sense of commitment to our club so whatever "way" they are using, it isn't working.

Is it commitment to the club the players are lacking or commitment to the managers?

I can think of quite a few of our current squad who i'm certain care about the club and are good players who i would like to keep next season.

My concern is they want to play for the club, but may not want to play for the current management team and listening to the comments doing the rounds and the recent press releases when the players were openly criticised this has not helped the situation and was a big mistake. I can't think of any manager or management team that have done this and recovered from it.

It’s a good point park life but every time they put on the shirt they represent the heartbeat of any club, the fans.
It shouldn’t matter what the players think of the managers when it comes to giving 100% for the fans and club who pay their wages.

Agree Kentc but you can work for a company you like but may not get on with your manager and this can effect your performance.
Not excusing this terrible performance in any way as it was one of the most inept i have witnessed but i'm just judging by what i hear and have seen over the last couple of months and quite clearly the spirit has gone but the "club & fans" are still the same so what else has changed?
