East Thurrock v Dartford - 29/12/2018 @ 15:00

Post by DA Mikey »

What’s the solution then? Four up front? Pint of Red Bull at half time? Jumpers for goalposts?

I had us earmarked for seven points from the four Xmas fixtures - three against Hungerford and this mob and just one against Welling at home. As things stand after Boxing Day, I’m probably more confident of the point at home on NYD than I am three away tomorrow as we generally look a bit less toothless at PP. It has been commented that we are lacking some muscle and gritty leadership, which I think is absolutely spot on throughout. It’s all very well getting on nicely and agreeing about everything, but for me football is a sport which needs a bit of spunk and devilment in order for a team to thrive competitively. A few weeks ago we saw Lee Noble give Jamie Philpot a shove for skying an opportunity he felt he would’ve scored - this sparked a bit of debate on the terraces, but for me it was an indication of passion and sends a message of intent.

As for team selection, I’d start Coker over Hayes, drop Wynter and put one of Oyenuga or Sheringham up with Jampot (would plump for Charlie, but can we expect him to be available for two games in a row?)

I thought that Philpott had turned the corner and at least put in a decent shift over the past couple of games but sadly didn't get on the scoresheet against Welling and did look a little light against their big centre backs. Therefore, I would go with Sheringham up front with Coker just behind, purely because I don't think that Coker is an out and out winger and his best play has been when he has got central to the goal, saying that I don't think he is a striker either! Both Ryan and Ben had poor games last time out but I would stick with them purely as they give us natural width and given time together they will produce, now is the time to put a solid starting eleven together instead of the recent chopping and changing. Apart from that you could argue that Wynter could replace one of our fullbacks as neither have been convincing of late.

This is a winnable game and we should put our strongest team out from the off and on paper I would go with the following. My concern is that JC will punish Ryan for his last performance and I think this also plays on Ryan's mind. AF has to talk to Ryan and reassure him that he is vital the team if we have any hope of being in the play-offs at seasons end.

That is from Coyle's signings alone. The more I think about our management setup, the more I want Adam to have full control and bring back Skip Sawyer as his number 2.

Love it Spike, it gave me a laugh
ET are fighting for their lives and will fancy home advantage
over our inconsistent team.
If we suddenly discover our shooting boots we should win
But it depends which Dartford turns up.l

If we don't win today serious questions need to be asked about the management team, but i think we will by at least 2 goals giving the management team another week of breathing space

Where is Authur Horsefield’s post from last night? A case of l’espirit de l’escalier perhaps?

We only just squeezed through this fixture last season (courtesy of a late Danny Mills header no less and wild celebration behind the goal) and I’ve a feeling we failed to win here the season before, so given our uninspiring first half of the season, East Thurrock are not going to be afraid of us. To win by more than two goals today would get us out of the red GD-wise, but I just can’t see it...

We have to give the management a chance of a couple of seasons at least. We knew it was going to be a roller-coaster of a season. Like I say, we are 9th, hardly a doom and gloom season. two wins and we are amongst the leaders, two defeats and we are mediocre.
Admittedly, we are not great. So, let's get behind the lads, I am sure they are giving it their best.
Looking at Jonty's team I still feel Wynter should be in there. Get rid of Ryan I'm afraid. And will Charlie be there? The 64,000,000 dollar ( £64) question
