Sad news - Charlie Prior RIP

Post by Gary C »

Just had a phone call from Dave Skinner, passing on the sad news that Charlie Prior has passed away. For the younger/newer fans, Charlie was the assistant manager/coach for the famous Wembley side of 73/74.

I'm sure the Club will be putting together some further information and funeral details etc in due course, but extremely sad news.

Extremely sad time for all. When anyone talks about the history of Dartford football club Charlie is one of the cornerstones in that history. How can anyone picture the team photo of those great years in their mind, (the one with the diagonal black stripe)and not see Charlie before any player. Old Father Time finally caught up with him, we say goodbye to one of our true greats.

Very sad news and also Charlie was manager of Cray Wanderers in the early 1960's.
I'm not sure when he joined us if is was when Alf Ackerman was manager or when Ernie Morgan took charge

What a lovely man. I enjoyed reading this article back in 2015 celebrating his 70th Wedding Anniversary.

Very sorry to have read this news. A big part of the club back in the 70s. Look back at the photos, there was always a smile on his face.

It was only in recent times that I got to meet Charlie, in his seat at PP. It only came to my knowledge in recent seasons when visiting his sister, whose family were very close friends of my parents, that Charlie was her brother. I had never previously been aware of that connection all those years ago, so I was delighted to have made contact with him during my last couple of visits to PP. I think it is wonderful when players and those involved with the club in the past continue their association and involvement with DFC during their later years. It is being part of the DFC family. I only hope I have the opportunity to still be supporting the Club at 96 years of age. Thank you Charlie for the memories of Wembley 74. RIP Charlie.
