Ir was all so easy years ago. I must be showing my age!
Division 1 was Division 1
Division 2 was Division 2
Division 3 was Division 3 and
Division 4 was Division 4.

But then again, to really show age, before the reorganisation , it used to be
Division 3 North and
Division 3 South.

and of course only 11 aside with no subs
and players never used to fall over either!

Trevor. When we get to our time in life, we've seen the wheel go round and round, and it's going round again now. I think we must have been ahead of our time.
The National League may as well join up with the EFL division 2, and the 2 of them regionalism. Then 2 up from each of the NLS and NLN and 2 down from each of the EFLn and EFLs, which would also help reduce national travelling for the clubs until reaching EFL 1.

I digress, but having just watched the Palace v Fulham game i would sooner pay to watch us play rather than be given a free lift and free admission and free meal to watch either of these clubs play

And having watched the Leicester v Arsenal match this afternoon, I shall forever be grateful that we will never have to endure the crap that is called "VAR" at our level. Does anyone genuinely think this nonsense actually contributes to the enjoyment of watching football?

No. It’s stopped me going to Prem games. Can’t annoy the game anymore.

I thought it would be great and was a big advocate for it. I now think it’s ruining top flight football

Unfortunately there are a lot of things that are ruining top flight football. Diving, feigning injury, screaming when tackled, money, covid, refs, VAR, to name but a few.

I think there’s a chance of football crowds suffering long-term from all of this. In the same way that office workers have discovered that they can produce a similar output by sitting at home in their dressing gowns all day with Netflix on, having the occasional Teams meeting and that people can replicate the pub and socialising by drinking at home doing Zoom calls or FaceTime or whatever, not to mention the online shopping for a fraction of the usual price.
Let’s face it - no matter how intrepid or gregarious the individual, to a man we have all been totally and utterly grounded by fear, instruction and / or compliance for an entire year now (the stuff of books and films only until 2020) and my personal perception of it is that most people are happier with more time at home, despite a good deal of false martyrdom to protest otherwise.
So by extension, this affects the football world - with online streaming; tv coverage, etc. fans are realising that it’s cheaper and easier simply not to bother going to games.
Clearly, in the non-league world, Dorking and Gloucester are furious that the season has ended. Dover are sitting in the corner with arms folded, pretending that theirs has. I’m actually not entirely sure what the average DFC fan makes of it. We seem fairly readily accepting of it (I am, because it’s easier just to go with the flow*), perhaps due to the drop in form and fall from top spot. What I have realised though, is that very few people I know are busting a gut to get back on the terraces. The already DFC-indoctrinated shouldn’t be affected, since it’s all quite old school going to games and for many of us the online service - whilst appreciated - just wasn’t right.

I could be wrong of course - it could be that abstinence will bolster attendances for a while when the powers that be tell us we can do what we want again*, only time will tell.

(*leaving any suspicion of David Icke style mind control conspiracy leanings at the forum door)
