Patrick Carey

Post by Ozymandias »

I didn't know whether to put this on here, but the other half of 'The Odd Couple' Pat (Patrick) Carey died yesterday evening of Covid.

Pat was my best friend and had been suffering underlying health problems. He has supported the Darts for 60+ years and his last game he watched was against St Albans in August 2019.
Pat was on dialysis for the last 2 years and he couldn't get the right slot to go up and watch the games because of his dialysis. When he finally got an early morning slot on match days lockdown happened.

As the Odd Couple we kit sponsored Lee Noble for 5/6 years until this season when we decided to sponsor Jacob Berkeley Agyepong. Unfortunately Pat never got to see him play.

He was a quiet, unassuming chap who wouldn't say boo to a goose. Will be sadly missed by me.
If anyone can tell/contact Terry Pease or Rob Osbon with the news I would appreciate it. :(

So sorry to hear this news Ozy. I've known Pat for years, he occasionally refereed matches for my Sunday League club back in the 80's. A really nice guy. RIP Pat.

Really sad news. Pat refereed a number of Dartford Supporters FC matches in the North Kent Sunday League which is where I first meet him and later watching the Darts at Watling Street. Condolences to all his family. This bloody virus continues to reek havoc.

He ran Bean YC FC with great enthusiasm in the 1970's, when others would have quit and was well respected in local football circles and by people who met him.

So sorry to hear of Patricks passing. His mother and my mum were pals years ago so I often got news of Patrick from her. I know you'll miss your old friend, particularly on match days.

Best wishes, Ozy.

Hi Dave,
So sorry to hear about Pat ,he was a gentleman and I always had a chat with him usually at h/t.
I remember playing for Springvale against Bean yc .
It finished 8-6 to Springvale, Pat said to me afterwards that he nearly lost count but, he refereed with honesty and positivity and I will miss our half time chats.
RIP Patrick.

Shit happens, he was a good mate. He had a lot of health issue's but kept his head up. When he contracted Covid he was told to isolate and also have his dialysis three times a week. He was taken in to hospital soon after a dialysis night and you had to wonder if he was going to come out. The night before he died I phoned him on his mobile and got a little from him as he was confused. hated the mask. All he wanted to do was get a round of golf in when the weather got warmer.
