A long hard season is on the cards as far as I am concerned .
after losing out on promotion last season there have been a lot of changes.
There is a long way to go but so far I have seen very little to Get hopeful about
The main problem is lack of goals ,5 in 8 games so far .
Our joint managers still have time and we have no divine right.
But what I have seen so far is not very inspiring.
St Albans v Darts (Sat 1st Sep. 3pm)
Re: St Albans v Darts (Sat 1st Sep. 3pm)
I could not attend yesterday but I was not expecting any other result with the players we have signed and I will be very surprised if we get anything from the next 2 games. It was always going to be a hard season trying to replace some of the quality players that left the club, especially one player who created more than half our assists. It's no wonder that we have lost our Magic.........Man!
Re: St Albans v Darts (Sat 1st Sep. 3pm)
I have come away from games recently embarrassed by the performance but not yesterday, whilst it was disappointing to lose (which we always do at St Albans) the performance was better although we've still a long way to go. IMO several of the new players (and at least one of last seasons) are not good enough and a few others where i'm still to be convinced, the only exceptions being Ben and Billy.
With the additions of Charlie and Tom we at last posed an attacking threat, something which our others forwards have failed miserably to do all season. Charlie showed enough for me yesterday to suggest he will be a good addition and young Tom's pace and willingness to run at (and past) their defenders was good to see.
First half was pretty even with chances at both ends, Charlie grazing the crossbar and a good block from their keeper denying him a goal and whilst we didn't score we were at last creating chances from open play, something which we've failed to do all season. Second half was pretty dull but very disappointing we gave away a poor goal so early on in the half, after that not much happened until we gave away another needless free kick which their guy dispatched well and it was game over.
Overall disappointed we didn't get anything form the game but the performance was better, MOTM for me between Nobes and young Tom.

I didn't think we were too bad and certainly shaded the first half. Thought Charlie and Tom both
improved the team but once we conceded we didn't have enough to get back in the game.

Nothing about this was a decent performance. We were awful. Poor individually. Back to a lot of hoofball. They did outplay us mostly in second half. To be outplayed and say we played well is strange I hope the two at the top don’t think this way. We had a few chances they had several more.
Thouroghly un entertaining and with the exception of Noble Bonnor and knowles this is a really poor side.
Don’t get 100% effort and popularity mixed up with ability.
If you want a team full of players you love great, if you want a team full of quality and potential winners then at times that will be different.
I worry if this continues to home games our crowds will drop massively. I though we was light yesterday on turnout.

I don't think ANYBODY has said "decent performance" and "played well" but to say we were awful i think is unfair.
Generally players you love are the better ones

My biggest disappointment was the poor form and display from Charlie, a very weak shadow of our favorite player of the past IMO!
Afraid time catches up with all of us in the end!

I don't think anyone thinks our team is good enough Kentc, but I'm not sure anyone has made the claims that you are arguing against. The general consensus seemed to be along the lines that we WERE poor yesterday, but we were not the complete shambles that we were in a few recent games and that up front we looked just a little bit more hopeful. I don't think your view is a million miles apart from the other posters although I disagree with your assertion that we were outclassed. I just saw two poor teams with one narrowly shading it.Kentc wrote:Nothing about this was a decent performance. We were awful. Poor individually. Back to a lot of hoofball. I agree that if this continues then our crowds will drop, in fact we would surely get relegated too, but I would like to think that Jamie and Adam won't let that happen because they will fix it. Bringing in Charlie and Tommy was a small step in the right direction and I don't think we're being overly rose-tinted by just acknowledging that progress. It's not enough of course, but it's a start.
