Re: Chippenham Town - rearranged fixture
Yes a great performance, but won't let it go to my head, as I noticed from their web site that they had to play without 5 of their regular senior players tonight, for one reason or another! But you can only play against what is in front of you and we did well in the second half!

Well I hope they don't start finding them any better than they do now, before they play us! ' The only problem to address is what is going on out on the pitch' Surprising as this may be to you Spike - it's really the only thing I (and I suspect the majority of other supporters) am really interested in!spike wrote:Well between us all, it seems the solution is to get rid of the managers, all the directors and all the players except Lee Noble. As yet, nobody has suggested knocking down the ground, but it's still only Sunday.
I think we need to keep perspective here. There's an awful lot of stuff that our club is doing very well. Behind the scenes we are doing better than ever. Ventures like the business club are going very well. Our academy MAKES money, it doesn't lose it as some seem to believe. The club's profile in the town has never been higher. That is why our attendances (contrary to what so many people keep saying on here), have been going UP, not down. Our club is run very well, we are financially solvent and our future is secure. That side of things is pretty damned impressive, especially when compared to other clubs. We should be proud of the way our club conducts itself.
The only problem to address is what is going on out on the pitch. Obviously, all the behind the scenes stuff is great but we still need a modicum of success on the pitch to keep people interested. The budget isn't the best but TB has already proven what can be achieved. In my view, all our problems this season are a direct consequence of poor recruitment. Coyley & Flanners made mistakes right from the start, by putting the wrong players on contract and making bad decisions. When things went belly up, they tried to patch things up with loan players and bodge up emergency fixes like Joe Healy. Not that Joe isn't a decent player, but this sort of arrangement is never going to help get a settled side. It's a hard thing to fix once you've made these errors, not least because some of your budget is then paying part of the wages for players who are now on loan somewhere else or players you've committed to who are clearly not up to scratch. Cripes, I don't know what sort of deals we've done, but it seems we can't even call our loan guys back when we have injury crises like yesterday! All these changes, loanees and patch up jobs did eventually bring a bit of success for a little while, but has finally blown up in our faces. Nevertheless, the underlying reason why our season has fallen apart is simply because the recruitment was wrong from day 1.
The transition from the TB era was always going to be a difficult process, but a whole season has gone by and we haven't even begun the process. Coyley & Flanners are decent guys and I have no doubt their hearts are in the right place, but I think there has to be question marks over their judgement on players. I am fearful that the same thing will happen next season, but with the mood in the camp as it is and Bradders already definitely going, we may not even have our trusted "core" to dig us out of a hole. Unless there's some very significant changes, I fear next year could be significantly worse than this one.

Wouldn't have made any difference today I'm afraid - it was the Club Spirit missing! Not the players.Lincoln exile wrote:Matt- Charlie's ankle injury HAS been reported by the club, as has Phil Robert's absence. Our on-loan striker, Darren, was injured training with Sutton, his own club. Like you I had assumed that in those circumstances Kudus and/or Delano would be recalled from their loans, or even Dan Derbyshire.

Wonder what he will do with Bluewater then?spike wrote:It's funny how he now "admits" their big spending was a mistake, and yet it wasn't so long ago that McMahon was on the radio moaning that they didn't have a big budget and getting annoyed every time anyone implied that they had. It does now seem that every time Dr Al-Humaidi opens his mouth, he distances himself (financially) a little farther from the club. Let's face it, he didn't come all the way from Kuwait because he was a lifelong Ebbsfleet fan, he came here for the theme park and the football was just a little sweetener for the locals. Now the park is virtually a dead duck he has no reason to stay. The "project" is over and Fleet are going to have to come to terms with this quickly and adjust their budget accordingly. I hope they survive this, I would hate to see the club go under. Hopefully they'll recover just well enough to finish several places below us for many years to come.

Re: St Albans v Darts (Sat 1st Sep. 3pm)
My biggest disappointment was the poor form and display from Charlie, a very weak shadow of our favorite player of the past IMO!
Afraid time catches up with all of us in the end!
