We are only 2nd because no one else is consistent and can put a run together or we would be out of the play offs.

Back to the 2nd half and I am sure it will be the long high ball again!
That aged well lol 😝

IMO

Tom stands out by some distance the mom today.
Not saying no one else played well.
His levels are sky high and showed that again.

Will post on game later

The majority of the game was a tough watch, bypassing the midfield a lot and constant long balls that seemed to miss the target more often than not. When we did get the ball on the floor we usually picked out the wrong pass and the move broke down before we could get an effort on goal. Getting 3 points is the most important thing so credit to the players and management for getting the job done.

I was hoping after the early goal we could get a couple more and pretty much end the game early but that wasn't the case. Their goal came from a set piece, where we've failed to deal with the 2nd ball which has been a common theme this season. We also allowed their winger to run 50 yards up the pitch to win the corner without getting a foot in until he was in the penalty area.

Dover didn't look like scoring in the 2nd half, but neither did we. All of our shots seemed to be high and way off the target. Until Luke Allen picked up the ball on the edge of the box and a beautiful finish to secure the 3 points.

MOTM is a difficult one. Harvey worked hard all game with his constant running and causing their defenders problem whether he was out wide or central. Tom was solid as ever at the back but my vote is going to Chin. I thought he was excellent going forward, taking his man on and the main player who was making things happen in the attacking third, in my opinion very unlucky to be taken off.

Oxford took the win against Chelmsford, was hoping for a draw but that is a good result for us. We are now 2 clear of Oxford with 2 in hand and 5 clear of Chelmsford with 1 in hand. I'd like to think winning our 2 games in hand should be enough but 3 wins out of our last 5 should be enough.

Onto Taunton on Thursday

We started the game brightly and took control in the early stages much like at Eastbourne . And just like Friday we were rewarded with a Bradbury goal . Our Mr Jekyll football if you will.
Dover woke up a bit and grew into the game until what seemed to be inevitable equaliser was headed home . Mr Hyde was back and we totally lost our way. Its was Déjà vu . Gone was the nice football we had played , replaced with the long ball to nowhere . I was happy to go in even at the break and feared the worse in the second half going on previous games .
I don’t know what AD said but it worked , the nice footballing Mr Jekyll was back but we still looked nervous . We were taking an extra touch or hitting a stray pass which happens when low on confidence. But we were trying to play our football . We kept on pressing and never gave up until Luke Allen produced a bit of magic smashing a curling shot from a good 25 yards into the top corner. The relief on the pitch and terraces exploded into unadulterated joy . Enjoy the goals .

It's really tough having no one in mid field who can put their foot on the ball and dictate play, hence so much hit and hope. Winter does a good shielding job leaving Smith, Coulson and Chin to do the creative stuff - each has his qualities but none was able to dictate the rhythm or shape of the game. Its all a bit fraught and very frustrating. Samir is a big miss.
Three more points though so nearer still to securing second spot so we shouldn't complain.
I just hope we can find another gear in the playoffs.

We started the first half well and got the early goal but then didn't stamp our authority on the game and after a couple of chances Dover got a deserved equaliser. Rest of the first half was a tough watch with neither side showing much quality.

Second half we only needed to up our game slightly which we did and ran out deserved winners courtesy of a great strike from Luke. Looking back on the game, I think if the first half hadn't been so disappointing we may have appreciated the improvement second half a bit more but the important thing is three more valuable points. We must keep plugging away and get back to playing the quality of football we know we are capable of to get that very important second spot.

I thought Jordan and Tom had decent games but MOTM for me was Harvey, another goal and worked tirelessly all game. If he continues his very impressive form he could well play a massive part in our season.

An important 3 points.

Good start then laboured after they’d equalised. We do sadly lack the player that will take the team by the scruff of its neck and drag it out of the obvious stupor after we concede.

Second half we looked the most likeliest of the two teams to score and win the game. What a goal from Luke with 5 minutes to spare an that trademark basketball celebration.

MoM for me was a close one between Jordan Wynter and Harvey but the latter gets my nod.

7 Points from 5 Games should be Good enough to claim 2nd, providing Goal Difference doesn't change dramatically.

Points in the bag at this stage of the season is the important thing, so the 3 points today was needed as we try and cement that 2nd spot.

Again, top notch commentary, and fair comments too, even when things aren't going so well for us.

Let's keep pushing on.

Hard game to watch but a moment of magic from Luke Allen gave us all three point.
Man of the match Harvey Bradbury worked hard throughout.

Match Report by Chris Palmer

Luke Allen came off the bench to win the game with a superb strike, as Dartford took part in a close and difficult encounter with Dover Athletic at Bericote Powerhouse Princes Park.

As 1,246 supporters turned up on this Easter Bank Holiday Monday, they couldn’t have wished for a brighter start under the mixed weather conditions because the hosts raced out of the blocks initially. And, within five minutes they were ahead!

And, it was in-form striker Harvey Bradbury who was on hand to pounce on what was possibly one of the easiest opportunities of his career. The visitors failed to clear the danger and Bradbury was on hand to fire home from close-range, as he scored his third consecutive goal, his fourth in five appearances for the Darts (5).

However, the visitors responded well and came close to levelling the score just five minutes later. Only the intervention of a Tom Bonner block and a goal-line clearance prevented Dover from equalising (10).

Dartford were unlucky to not have doubled their advantage in the 18th minute following a lovely through-ball by Jordan Wynter. The pass setup Richard Chin, whose initial strike forced a clumsy save from Stuart Nelson. But, the goalkeeper couldn’t hold the ball and Bradbury pounced only to see his goal chalked off for offside.

Just as the hosts were looking deadly in attack, Dover got a grip and the game seemed to become more central in the midfield areas. However, as we approached the thirty-minute mark, the visitors were level.

The goal came via Jordan Higgs, who found the back of the net after the hosts failed to deal with a corner (30). And, just like that, the game swung towards a midfield battle which neither side could really gain control of for the remainder of the half.

That was the general state of play for long periods of the second forty-five as well, although Jack Smith did smack Nelson’s crossbar with a drive from distance in the 48th minute.

The Dover goalkeeper did have to remain alert, though, as the lively Bradbury almost caught him off guard following excellent work by Richard Chin (61). Bradbury almost turned provider five minutes later, only to see Pierre Fonkeu fire over the crossbar (66).

Things in front of goal just haven’t been going right for Fonkeu recently, and it wasn’t much longer before manager Alan Dowson tried something different with a double substitution in the 72nd minute. Both Fonkeu and Chin were replaced by Luke Allen and Malachi Napa in a swap which would eventually pay dividends.

As play continued, the hosts began to pile on the pressure and, eventually, the pressure paid off and the Darts got the break they needed. Luke Allen received the ball inside the Dover half, ran forward with intent and, without any opponent able to get near him, he pulled the trigger on a delightful curling drive that dipped into the top corner of Nelson’s goal (83).

Both Dartford and the fans had to be patient this afternoon, but it was certainly worth waiting for, and a goal worthy of winning any game, let alone a Kent Derby!

The excellent Jordan Wynter was rewarded with the Man of The Match award, as the Darts completed the league double over their opponents. The result ensures that Tom Bonner and Co remain in second place of the National League South table and in that vital position needed for the battle of the play-offs.

Fairly even first half but a massive improvement in the second and we were worthy winners. Phenomenal goal from Luke and a massive 3 points. At this stage it doesn't matter how you win, just so long as you win. 7 points from the remaining 15 would almost certainly be enough for that vital 2nd place. Given our patchy form on the road, Thursday against Taunton is a big one.
