Firstly, congratulations to the football team on the pitch for ignoring the constant provocation from the appalling team from north of the Thames. Feigning head injuries to get players booked is about the low as you can get. It only resulted in the crowd becoming more involved in the game and cranking up the volume in support of the Darts. It was funny to see a team waste so much time in the first half, and then complain about our keeper taking far less time than their keeper whenever we had a goal kick.

Two glorious goals and two well taken penalties put us in total control even though Tom had seen yellow twice, handed out by the inept official in the middle. Strangely, I do not believe that any of our opponents back four saw yellow all game.

Braintree have a reputation and they continue to defend that reputation to the last. I am not sure what the away fans see in their performance to merit spending hard earned cash on travelling to watch. At least today, there was one team on the pitch playing the beautiful game, even if only when their shirts weren't being pulled.

This is turning into a glorious weekend of sport, with the English performances at cricket, rugby union and rugby league. I just need Chelsea to beat the Gooners now to make it a full set!

Another Brilliant Performance by the Darts against a Team of Spoilers. they got exactly what they deserved, the number of times their Players went down screaming when they knew the challenge was coming in and also their Players managed to scream in harmony, obviously practice it in training. Shouldn't really be talking about them, its all about the Darts.

The first half was a non event , not sure what was said at half time but it worked . I guess it was on the lines of get the ball down and let your football do the talking and stop them from dragging you into their cheating antics .
Not sure Tom what Tom did but to be fair there was not a lot of complaint . I wonder then the last time a team with 10 men scored 3 times but 2 off them were sublime. I only just managed to get Lukes as it happened so quickly.

Sheringham slots home the penalty for Dartford after Fonkeu is brought down v Braintree

Coulson scores with an amazing volley for Dartford v Braintree

Carruthers scores Dartford’s 3rd v Braintree

Carruthers scores his second and Dartford’s 4th from the spot v Braintree

Brainless clearly came to spoil and break up play with very little intent to attack and win the game. That made it difficult for us in the first half and, Charing at the break, we wondered what exactly we had to do to break them down.

Second half we played with more intensity, a high press and sharper passing. That’s exactly what unlocked a hugely negative opposition that got exactly what they deserved from the game - nothing! At times in the second half we were brilliant and tore them a new one. Two wonderful goals, one each by Luke and Samir were well worth the entrance fee.

Back too and the unbeaten run continues. Onto Farnborough next week.

Agree Pierre had a good game but Luke Coulson made the difference for s today and gets my MoM vote.

A Great performance against a team barely interested in playing football until they went one nil down. Time wasting, play acting, anti-football. I feel sorry for their fans who have to watch this every week.

Every player stood up in the second half- we worked harder and had quality all over the pitch.

Tom’s sending off happened in front of me- he got caught out after a quick throw and the attacker got the wrong side of him. As soon as that happened the attacker was always going straight down. His first yellow was soft too, so I think he’ll be disappointed to be sent off for two pretty innocuous challenges.

Another great win well deserved.
Braintree are a joke of a team , all that first half time wasting and the useless ref adds one minute extra time. Their manager should take a look at our third goal to understand that’s how you play football
Once again so many good performances from our players but I made pierre MOTM for his not stop effort always available and won the penalty

Happy to be corrected but wasn’t Tom already facing a one match ban if he picked up another yellow?

also, with todays red, does that mean it’s a 2 match ban?

Match Report by Chris Palmer

DARTFORD 4 BRAINTREE TOWN 1

Dartford’s unbeaten run continued, as they put four goals past an in-form Braintree Town in front of 1,028 supporters at Bericote Powerhouse Princes Park on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon.

After an excellently observed two-minute silence in honour of those in the Armed Forces the referee, Mr Ben Atkinson, got the first forty-five underway. However, there was very little goalmouth action throughout to be honest.

The visitors started the stronger of the two sides, but failed to create anything worthy of mention. Instead, they were determined to slow the game down as much as possible, regardless of whether in possession or not… a tactical move that would backfire spectacularly the longer the game went on!

The closest anyone came to producing something during the opening exchanges fell in the Iron’s favour, after Kyran Clements failed to reach a deep ball into the Dartford box (2).

However, the longer the half went on, the more confident the Darts grew. With another solid performance coming from the well-marshalled defence and midfield, Braintree weren’t getting any success going forward, so the hosts began venturing forward more often themselves.

And Alan Dowson’s side came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 42nd minute. Luke Coulson’s corner caused havoc inside the Iron’s box and eventually found the boot of Pierre Fonkeu. However, the defence somehow managed to clear the goal-bound effort off the line to keep the score level at the break.

The second-half was an entirely different affair to say the least and, as the hosts launched an attack down their right-flank, Mr Atkinson awarded them an opportunity to take the lead after Pierre Fonkeu was fouled inside the Braintree box. Up stepped Charlie Sheringham to convert the penalty to give the Darts the lead (50).

The visitors responded immediately and were eventually awarded a corner, but the resulting shot ricocheted off of another Braintree player and flew high over the top of Joe Young’s crossbar (53).

The goal had opened up the pitch more, as the visitors had to come forward, and it wasn’t long before goalkeeper Jack Sims was called into action at the other end… as he managed to parry Luke Coulson’s 61st minute drive before the follow-up was deemed to be offside.

Some might forgive Braintree for thinking that they had a way back into the game a minute later, after Dartford skipper Tom Bonner was shown a second yellow card, followed by a red, after a seemingly 50/50 challenge with Matthew Rush (62). Regardless of the circumstances, Bonner was off, and the Darts faced the prospect of defending for their lives with an 11-man Braintree. Or so they thought…

The brilliant Luke Coulson (who’d go on to receive a worthy Man of The Match award), however, had other ideas. As the hosts attacked via the right-flank once again, he received the ball before sending a delightful long-range strike which left Sims with absolutely no chance of reaching, let alone saving (68).

Ironically, the Iron speeded up their game from then on as they tried to get back into the game. And, after 74 minutes an opportunity materialised after an attack on their right-side ended with a terrific ball towards the middle… only for Coulson to pull off a fantastic interception which prevented them from testing Joe Young between the sticks. Coulson then played a neat one-two with Charlie Sheringham before winning a throw-in deep inside the opposition half.

The Iron pulled themselves back into the game after Kyran Clements’ bullet header from a corner halved the deficit in the 79th minute.

Alan Dowson responded with a double substitution, throwing on Alex Wall and Samir Carruthers to replace Charlie Sheringham and Luke Coulson (80), before Keiran Murtagh came on for Josh Johnson six minutes later.

Meanwhile, the visitors also took advantage of their bench by bringing on Leon Davies for Joe Muscatt (64) followed by Joseph Boachie and Chris Regis replacing Levi Amantchi and Alfred Payne (80).

Yet it was the Dartford changes that influenced the game more… particularly Samir Carruthers.

As the game entered the 90th minute, Keiran Murtagh saw his effort put behind for a corner. The set-piece then found Carruthers inside the box, who simply wasn’t going to miss from such a range! However, the midfielder wasn’t quite finished yet.

To add insult to Braintree’s injury, a Dartford attack deep into stoppage time saw the defence fail to hold station and the hosts were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon. Up stepped Carruthers to smash the ball beyond the hapless Sims to send the Iron back to Essex with the sounds of fireworks and Dartford celebrations accompanying them.

The result sees the Darts return to the top of the National League South table, as well as continuing their impressive form and unbeaten run.

I totally agree with whats been said about Braintree and after the 1st goal they had to come out and gaps appeared and they got what they deserved in the end
Obviously Dowse's words stung us into action 2nd half and we started to win most of the 2nd balls and looked a totally different side , I didnt see Coulsons magical goal [ briefly talking to Jonty ] look forward to the highlights !!!!
I hope Dowse is being extra nice to Oxford and Stevenage as those 2 lads need to stay with us for the rest of the season, we will both benefit hugely from it !!!!
Individual brilliance from Coulson and Caruthers rate very highly but I thought Pieere Fonkue had a really good game and deserved [ overall] to get my vote as motm

31pts from a possible 33 says we are a good side and the very good bench [ and a couple who are not currently getting a start ] makes this a really good squad and given a fair wind is capable a sustaining a promotion challenge

If Tuesday was described as a pivotal moment in the season then how would you described today's result other than massive.
The team spirit shone through big-time after going down to 10 men.
The third goal in particular was sublime with the build up as good as anything you will see produced from Ebbsfleet this season. Absolutely top drawer stuff.
Special mention for Martin Tyler.
I love listening to his candid post match interviews.
His summarization of games nails it everytime.
