DARTS KNOCKED-OUT IN POOR DISPLAY AT SEVENOAKS

Match Report – Kent Women’s Plate quarter-final – Sunday 19th February 2023; Weather: Sunny, mild
Sevenoaks 2 Dartford 1 (scorer: Nugent)
Dartford Manager: Rhys Terry, Asst. coach Dan Edwards
Dartford team: Stevie-Marie Reece, Brittani Rumble, Robyn Smitherman, Chloe Hall, Annie White, Lauren Bullen,
Sabine Ghag, Aimee Ascott, Georgia Culpitt, Beatrice Ogundele, Lizzie Nugent
Subs: Alex Foulds, Emily Woodhouse, Amy Brooks, Tilly Rowsell (all used)

Annie White had to go off within the first couple of minutes, succumbing to a pulled muscle suffered in the warm-up.

Sevenoaks got off to a flying start with a goal in the first minute and only a couple of minutes later were foiled from taking a 2-0 lead when Stevie blocked a shot in a one-on-one situation.

Darts got off to a really poor start and after conceding that first minute goal just couldn’t get themselves together and Sevenoaks provided really good opposition and had a flowing attack well served from their midfield, who over the course of the afternoon sent many fine through-passes for their strikers to run onto.

On 21 minutes Darts had a real let off when Sevenoaks failed to score from an open goal situation and then had a shot cleared off the goal-line to keep the scoreline at 1-0

Dartford’s equaliser really came out of the blue in the 35th minute from a corner on the right by Aimee. A high cross that beat everyone and as the ball was dropping near the back post, Lizzie Nugent headed it firmly into goal. This wasn’t really deserved on the basis of their performance but one-all it was.

A couple of minutes later from a well-taken Sevenoaks corner, Stevie was called upon to make a brilliant triple-save to keep Darts on equal terms. Darts really made hard work of the first half, and were not able to find any rhythm

In the 39th minute from another corner, this time on the left from Alex, Darts had a real chance of getting their noses in front. The initial corner was blocked and Alex’s second delivery found its way into the penalty area but was just too fast for Lauren to get any real power and direction to her header.

More good anticipation from Stevie enabled her to make a good clearance from an in-rushing forward.

H-T 1-1

Expectations were for a better second half from Darts – however the free-flowing football of the Darts never materialised and players in the middle of the park were too often slow, caught in possession or forced into poor passes.

Sevenoaks continued to create chances but also spoiled them all, but finally they got their just rewards in a finely-worked goal to regain the lead.

Darts best effort at scoring came when Emily Woodhouse had a shot cleared from just in front of the goalmouth but to be truthful Darts didn’t really deserve to get anything out of this game.

A Darts’ flurry in the last three or four minutes never came to anything and it was Sevenoaks who took their place in the semi-finals with a fully-deserved win.

F-T 1-2
